I mean, in his defense, what was he supposed to do? Not bring a loaded gun to a wedding? Would it even be a legally binding wedding without one?

What surprised me is it didn't happen in Texas or Florida.

The 45 COLT ammunition was a blank, but Gardener “put black powder into the casing and then glued it,” the chief deputy added. “And what we believe, is the glue is what injured the child,” he said.

Well that was a stupid and unnecessary decision, wasn't it.

I roll my own black powder and shotgun shells. All this guy did was press a fresh primer in the case, dump some black powder in it and cap it with glue. This is a perfectly reasonable way to create a loud and smokey blank. It's also perfectly safe to fire such a thing in the air. (Someone who has never heard of a starter pistol will grief me. Or, I suppose someone will want to argue hot glue ballistics.)

But he committed at least 2 unforgivable sins, presumably because he wasn't treating it like a "real" gun. 1) He let the muzzle point at someone. 2) Had his finger on the trigger.

Unforgivable. The idea of safety rules is not simply knowing and regurgitating them. The idea is to practice them until they're reflex. If I had my druthers, fuck around and get your guns pulled.

So if you think your 12 year old grandson is getting a shotgun wedding, you only bring a revolver? US customs are strange.
