So its not allowed to have real criticisms? Like those people can have fun while criticising mojang..

[–] crawley 45 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, this is dumb. Minecraft is fun and they should definitely add all 3 mobs

[–] sebinspace 12 points 8 months ago (3 children)

The work is probably already done for all three, I don’t see the point of tossing said work for two of them out the window. Just wasted man hours. Or.. whatever unit their scrum board uses, idfk. It’s a fucking waste.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Given how half-assed the new mobs always feel, I really think they don't do much more than modeling work until the vote is done, then just rush the rest of the work in

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I don't think microsoft is dumb enough to kill community made content on a game that would not exist right now without community made content. Yet again, microsoft.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

I think you might have responded to the wrong comment

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

If this were true, we'd have any of the "losing" mobs a year or two later, which is sadly not the case

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

None of the mobs are finished, only partially implemented. The mob vote helps mojang filter out which to add, if we didn't have it we'd still only get one mob just not the one the community chose.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 8 months ago

Seriously, it's okay to feel slighted when you're given a choice between three mobs and the worst one wins. Imagine if Mojang had just added glow squids and allays, instead of having people root for two other options just to let a slight majority (53% and 54% respectively) decide. People might actually like those mobs.

You can’t criticize a game and enjoy it?

[–] [email protected] 15 points 8 months ago (2 children)

If Starfield (re)taught me anything it's that some people will take the slightest reservation about their Best Game Ever as a mortal insult. So... they certainly can't.

[–] sebinspace 8 points 8 months ago

That mentality is so weird to me..

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I think the other side of that coin is that, for a lot of intellectual property, there are definitely people who want everyone to stop enjoying it. So you've got a bunch of loud mouth idiots who don't understand constructive criticism or criticism from a place of love. Then you have a bunch of other loud mouth idiots who believe that if something isn't exactly what they think it should be then it should be burnt to the ground so that it can get remade by someone else.

So reasonable people who are having a good time but still have some reservations are drowned out in the larger conversation.

I have the same issues with the updates that the QUIT HAVING FUN stick figure does. I also have fun when I play the silly block game.

I’m inclined to believe most people on a forum for a game enjoy it, and spend time criticizing it because they honestly want it to be better. There’s things in life I don’t enjoy and I could tell you why I didn’t like them, but I certainly didn’t talk about these experiences on forums dedicated to the things I didn’t enjoy.

Seeing negativity all the time can be pretty exhausting. I also think it’s easier to talk about the negatives of something. I don’t really have any guesses for why I enjoy Minecraft or why I like the programmer art, I just know I like these things. But I can tell you about things I don’t like and guess at why, and I can also recommend fixes for problems. I can’t recommend fixes for things that aren’t problems, for things that I already like just as they are. (Although I think everyone else covered why they take issue with the same things the QUIT HAVING FUN stick figure complained about well enough that I’m not going to reiterate their points.) And this is a discussion forum, people are going to talk about what’s easier to talk about and what they have more to say about. So that’s probably why you see a lot of complaining on an enthusiast forum.

[–] sebinspace 3 points 8 months ago

This, exactly. No one criticizes a game they don’t care about.

[–] Chailles 32 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You say that as if we don't want other people to enjoy the game that's there. It's not a difficult thing to sympathize that these mob votes are a needlessly frustrating thing.

[–] sxt 26 points 8 months ago

God forbid people care about the game's development. Nobody is trying to stop you from playing or enjoying the game.

[–] clearleaf 25 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I hate this template because it's always the person making it who wants to control what other people are allowed to do and talk about.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Why don't they add all 3, tho? 🤔

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago

Because the entire point of the vote is to make people feel part of the event. If a mob doesn't get added, its functionality will be added to something else. One example is the grindstone, which took the functionality of one of the 3 mobs of the original mob vote.

[–] mayTay 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Exactly.

I think everyone who wants all 3 and bashing them over just adding one is actually having fun with the game. This post is just stupid.

[–] Noodle07 1 points 8 months ago

I'm having fun putting signs with "vote crab" everywhere

[–] [email protected] 12 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Just because you are having fun, others don't have to and they are free to express that they don't. Even if you or someone else enjoys the game you and them are allowed to criticize it. Even if it was a perfect game with nothing to criticize, people are allowed to criticise it's devolopers and the corporation that owns the game

[–] CodyCannoli 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Well said, I hope people don't take my meme to harshly. I just feel like sometimes the criticism is a little overwhelming especially when we get close to Minecraft Live. I certainly have my own criticisms with the game, but I'd never throw hate towards developers because they were focusing on something different. I am in no way attempting to silence other people. I'm saying that just because others criticize the game doesn't mean I have to.

I'm just a caveman that just plays modded Minecraft up until 1.12.2, don't mind me.

[–] Cicraft 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Oh crap, you scared me!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

The only way Minecraft becomes useless to me is it Microsoft kills mods or kills unofficial launchers.

Their official launcher is dog shit, and mods keep the game going in content droughts.

[–] jose1324 4 points 8 months ago

Me still playing modded 1.2.5 be like

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Hey OP. Can you give me some insight into how you play and enjoy the game? I'm always exhausting myself with my negative thoughts. 😮‍💨

[–] CodyCannoli 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I have a survival world that my younger siblings occasionally join on. I mostly focus on building but do have the occasional small redstone project. I think the main thing that's helped me is accepting that I don't have the time or the discipline do do the things I see other people do online. It might help that I've only been playing for 3 years so there are still a lot of things in the game I haven't done. My inspiration with the game is also driven by the content I consume, mostly Hermitcraft. The important thing is to find the thing you enjoy most. I personally enjoy worldbuilding and making every build with a purpose and story. If you don't have anyone IRL to play with then joining a whitelist server could be something to try. Or maybe a public server with lots of minigames.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

I play it once a year for like 2-3 weeks playing nothing else (with maybe a few extra plays here and there).

But I like doing it as if it's some engineering project. Like in my current world the biggest thing right now is making a road from spawn to where I'll put the base. But it' s survival in an amplified world, and I'm forcing my self to make the road like it would be in real life, first I did a survey so find the route with the least need for (in order of priority) tunnels, bridges, and "blasting"/rock cutting. Then I clear cut the "right of way" then constructed the road from the tree farm and quary/mine to the first bridge location and make a nice looking bridge with a stone brick retaining wall and staircase down to the lake. Also I'm adding in retaining walls and supports where realistic. It's kinda fun and so far has resulted in a lot more scenic and impressive looking road than the usual strategy of boring a straight line to the destination and treating bridges and tunnels like they are free.

I should play it again...
