Each of them has the potential to contribute to addressing the ecological, social, and economic challenges facing our society, yet I suspect that most are not taking any action.

I don't know about all of them. Surely they all do some kind of charity stuff.

The ones I do know about are:

Anders Holch Povlsen (Denmark) is buying a lot of land in several countries for rewilding.

Ortega (Spain) did a lot to fight cancer by donating 0.3 billion euros which was used for detection machines to the hospitals.

Ortega thus gave less than 0.5% of his fortune. Less than most normal people give annually.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Absolutely they could all give more, otherwise they wouldn't be on the list.

However, the situation about Ortega's donation also shows the difficulty in just throwing money at problems, because obviously people started arguing if it was spent well enough and so on.

With that much money, it is going to be difficult to get rid of it without disrupting something. It often turns into a political shit show.

They shouldn't have it to begin with.

This title implies there are some people who are the poorest billionaires. I really hate that

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's true, people just above 1 billion are the poorest billionaires.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

how on earth do they survive on only 1 billion??

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It's not that they're poor in absolute terms, but they're just poorest out of that specific group.

[–] SuckMyWang 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It must be embarrassing for them

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Not as embarrassing as falling into the millionaire category!

I think there is a Simpsons episode where Burns is no longer billionaire and he gets expelled from the club.

Looks like the French is richer than the sum of all other billionaires of Europe.

Second richest person in the world

French national Bernard Arnault is the chair and CEO of LVMH, the world’s largest luxury goods company. LVMH brands include Louis Vuitton, Hennessey, Marc Jacobs, and Sephora.

I dislike how people claim who is richer.

Putin owns an economy, Kim owns an economy. I think they might be richer. I think plenty of people are far richer

The Icelandic guy is incredibly wealthy when you consider the population of Iceland. If redistributed equally, each Icelander would get $6700.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Supposedly, Putin is worth over $200 billion, making him richer than all of them.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wonder how much of that is just an image. Like we've found out about their actual military state.

Good point.
