Grey wolves are about the size of a Great Dane, and generally quite a bit leaner.

I'm watching Wheel of Time and every time there's a scene with "wolves" this is all I can think about. The good boys and girls are so little but they're doing their best!

Years ago I had the opportunity to cuddle white wolves. They are so huge! And very friendly. Compared to dogs, their behaviour is very predictable. One just has to know how to "read" them.
