Skyrim is my favorite game of all time. I've played through it many times on many different characters. Sometimes I speedrun, sometimes I do all factions, sometimes I get lost roleplaying and I never beat it.

Spoilers kind of, but when you beat the game you get some cool rewards. New spells, new shouts, new summons. And a new song plays in taverns and the people of the world react with new dialogue. You also get new quests. But I've only experienced these things for short periods. Because as soon as I beat the game I lose all drive to play it.

In the back of my mind, as I'm doing those side quests and factions, and decorating my house, and goofing off underneath Riften, its all building up to the finale. Even if I never reach that end point something inside me needs it to be there for me to keep playing. I've had playthroughs where I try to save everything fun until after the main quest and I still can't get myself to do it. I just stop playing.

I wish there was new game plus where I could keep those end game spells and summons, but still have the main quest to do over. I've looked into mods and what I want doesnt fully exist but this mod at least saves your skills and gold.

I've talked to a lot of people about Skyrim and similar games and no one has ever felt the same way so maybe I'm just odd. I'd be curious to hear if anyone else goes through this.

If you can handle 16 bit graphics, Chrono trigger was the best new game+ game ever made (in my geriatric millennial opinion). Amazing story, great music, and like 20 different endings you can only unlock after beating the game the first time. Grab an emulator and play it on your phone and thank me later!
