Yeah ernest seems to be polish and the polish kbin instance is karab.in. Still it’s kind of a weird name for a link aggregator

I think it's pretty safe to say that the two terms are unrelated, and that most people on a non-Japanese-speaking community would not make that same connection.
It's a play for unix filesystem's layout - /sbin -> kbin. Can't recall the post, but that was answered by Ernest himself.
There is even the folder icon as the logo to make this link clearer.

To be fair, naming an app for kbin as "Vase" would be pretty dope.
ケビン is closer, which is just the transliteration of Kevin.
