I started getting this from yesterday. Hitting a link in Jerboa knows to open Chrome on my phone but doesn't actually load a new tab in browser.
Info - Jerboa V0.0.46, Chrome version 116.0.5845.172, android 11.
Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.
Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.
Jerboa is made by Lemmy's developers, and is free, open-source software, meaning no advertising, monetizing, or venture capital, ever. Your donations directly support full-time development of the project.

Edit - Ignore me, the advice to turn off the private tabs in Jerboa above worked.
The changelog says "Support private tabs for FireFox by @dankeast in https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/pull/1216" but OP mentioned Chrome...
Also it's somewhat broken on Firefox. If you leave the tab open and go to the homescreen, the next time you open Firefox it will start in incognito mode which drove me nuts. Also some pages won't load properly in Firefox in incognito mode (looking at you, imgur).
While I like the idea, I don't think it should have been enabled by default with an update, as I cannot remember setting this manually....
In case someone else is searching for this setting, its "use private tabs"
It didn't enable by default in this update. But I think when it did get added it was with default enabled but that was a while ago. I can take look at changing this default.
That issue with firefox is not one caused by Jerboa. So that would need to be reported with FireFox. The only change we did was add support for FireFox.
Thanks for the clarification- that means it was probably active for a while, but didn't work for me and I was only hit by it now, because now my browser is supported.
It's entirely possible, that I enabled that setting a while ago and forgot about it (or maybe accidentally) and never noticed that because of using Firefox.
I know, that the behavior of Firefox is likely not caused by you. I'll experiment around a bit and try to reproduce it reliably before filing a report there
What "embed links"'? Those in markdown? or all links opening externally? Either of way I can't reproduce this. We did make some minor changes regarding opening links externally so that Firefox private tabs are supported. What browser do you use, what settings do you have for custom and private tabs. What version of jerboa. Android/phone info. Basically more info = better
It's basically hyperlinks or embedded links in general for me. Like a link in a comment or a link embedded into a thumbnail.
I use chrome and don't have any personalized settings that I know of and I'm on Android with the moto g stylus.
Other than that I'm not much of a tech guy so I don't know what details you need specifically. That and I don't really know what all the technical jargon means 😅
The update you are talking about, is it the latest 0.0.46?
In settings do you have custom tabs or private tabs on? (in Jerboa not chrome)
Yes I'm currently on the latest update but I can't find anything about custom or private tabs at all
Settings > Look and Feel > Scroll down
It's set to "use private tabs if available"
Also does it work if you disable that setting?
And what about custom tabs?
I'm noticing this too
Turning off private tabs fixed the issue for me. I have no idea what the setting does though.
The setting makes it so that it open links in private/incognito tabs. So they won't pollute your browsing history.
This update added support for FireFox. But there seems to be some issues in other browsers. Were you also using Chrome?
