Judging by how we value finances over human life in our current timeline ... I'm going to say that the change is not going to be good for the human race.

Yeah, as long as corporate america can profit off the downfall of companies trying to make cures for cancer, we're fucked. You shouldn't be able to bet on the failure of companies.
We have had this same type of decision so many times in our history. Fossil fuels, antibiotics, plastics, AI. And we always have to learn too late that there were big, avoidable mistakes.
Might be better to just accept that and adapt to the fact that we are just horrible at making this type of choice.
It's called the Great Filter
And we're probably one of those Galactic species that won't go past this filter.
