Formula 1 supplier Pirelli says the impact on racing of a potential tyre warmer ban, with it potentially killing off the undercut, will be added factor in the final decision.

If it impairs the undercut, will it not bolster the overcut? If so, isn't it just a bit swings and roundabouts? As long as there is some sort of performance differential between old and very very new tyres, there'll be strategy implications.

i think the whole tyre discussion is outdated anyway.

at some point they will realize that all that microplastic is bad for the environment and they will ban tyres that practically destroy themselves.

i have been saying already they should switch to a different limiting factor than tyres. Maybe force them to use much bigger batteries that are plug and play. and give them options of different power/weight/amount or something like that.

Because they banned it on safety grounds (instead of โ€œRenault 100% used this to cheatโ€ grounds), they boxed themselves into a corner on ever bringing it back โ€” thereโ€™s still the risk of occasional fire from a few drops of leaked fuel, even with todayโ€™s improved fueling apparatus.

I don't know, I'm sure they'd find a way around it if they really wanted to bring refueling back. Honestly, I'd be in favor.

What do you guys think? Do you believe the tyre warmer ban could have a negative impact on racing?

I don't think so. Indycar hasn't used blankets in years and that racing is great. Even the cooler GPs would just require they keep the tires inside longer so they are room/garage temp at a minimum.

Likewise f2, the difference between soft and hard tyres in their feature races is massive so it makes the decision making about what strategy to run, and when to run it, much bigger

The current tyres are a massive problem in f1, I believe, have been since you started seeing the front running teams not needing to play the game with the others

You make a good point.

Hard to say. Perhaps it will lead to overly safe first few laps by the drivers. Worth testing it though.

Initially, probably, but after some time the drivers will adapt. They are in F1 for a reason.
