I got the mitosis. What's the loss?
It's a serious comic about miscarriage that everyone thought was hilarious due to its contrast with the usual funny series.
As someone who's been through the loss comic in real life, multiple times, it's pretty fucked everyone uses it as a meme. It's a miserable, soul crushing experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. And that's from the perspective of the father. I can't begin to imagine the emotional pain my wife was in.
I'm truly sorry for your and your wife's suffering. I have one kid, and everything went perfectly up to present day adulthood. I don't think I would be able to function after even one episode of what you've gone through. Internet hugs from afar.
To start, I'm sorry you had to go through that. My spouse and I had similar experiences while trying to conceive.
Loss is not funny to most people due to the contrast, but because of the sheer audacity of it's existence. The gaming webcomic that it was a part of had already run for years, focused around 1-dimensional characters making low-brow jokes and silly violent scenarios centered within mid-2000s "randomness". Suddenly, in 2008, the creator releases Loss, a manipulative, tone deaf strip about one of the worst physical and emotional traumas imaginable, shocking readers and earning infamy. Basically, it's a meme because it's so fucked. It's why people who share it only refer to the work superficially by name or pattern, rather than by content, almost like a tragedy.
I'm sorry to hear that... this meme is a weird internet fixation these days. I hope you and your wife recover and are able to move on and be happy together...

Can anyone explain the meme
The first part of the joke is that the image shows “Mitosis” - a process in which a cell splits in two. The word sounds like “my toe, sis”.

The first part of the joke is the type that people like me will never understand without someone explaining. I can tell it's mitosis but I can't tell that's what fills the gap. It just never comes to me on my own.
