Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

With a lot of talk around new apps in development & coming on stream, something I've been happy to see, & commented on, as choice is always a good thing... I thought I'd just voice my appreciation for the Jerboa team, love this App, such nice Ui & UX, I find it very easy to use, all the view options, post layouts, especially the compact view are really easy on the eyes, & great to scroll through quickly. I know there are some errors from time to time, & the odd glitch here & there, but thats something to be expected, given that Jerboa is still in its Alpha form.. Thanks for all you do, each iteration makes the experience, better & better..๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Yea! Jerboa certainly helped me leave Reddit. Well done and thanks devs!

Damn right.

[โ€“] [email protected] 104 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Thank you! I do have to remind people that jerboa is still very much alpha-level software... something I worked on in my off-time when not working on lemmy.

I'm super excited tho for it now, because it has a lot more skilled contributors, who actually know how to do android development.

Appreciate the work on the app so far, was great to have an open source app and one on F-Droid to replace infinity. Looking forward to seeing it's continued development.

[โ€“] dan1101 8 points 2 years ago

It's great for an alpha! I use it every day.

[โ€“] StoicLime 8 points 2 years ago

Just wanted to say that I love the animation while collapsing comments. Very slick.

Hear hear! The Jerboa app has been great, and @[email protected] (hope I did that right) has worked hard on it for sure! Some of the posts about bugs and/or feature suggestions have been downright rude imho, so it's nice see them get their flowers, they deserve it! It's nice to see so many new app projects popping up too of course, but so far Jerboa has done great by me, and like others have mentioned, has really eased my transition from RIF. My thumb already instinctively taps on Jerboa now instead of RIF, LOL.

[โ€“] [email protected] 34 points 2 years ago

Thanks! One of the best compliments on it I've gotten!

[โ€“] zammy95 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hahah, I put Jerboa right where rif used to be, so now I end up here instinctually plenty of times a day. No complaints on my end, the apps doing everything I need so far!

yeah it's always the people who contribute the least to free software who expects the most.

[โ€“] [email protected] 28 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It can be very grating when people demand that you do free labor for them, while refusing to do it themselves. Open source can feel like a group project, where one person just makes demands on everyone else without helping out.

[โ€“] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago

As a happy user of Jerboa, I say work on it only as much as you want. Take care of your personal well-being as that's the #1 priority.

Jerboa alone has made the transition from Boost on Reddit to Lemmy and the fediverse incredibly easy.

There's got to be thousands of peopel that are using this platform because of Jeroba. I know I probably wouldn't be here and commenting without that app. Thanks for all the hard work!

[โ€“] [email protected] 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm one of 'em, it's been great so far!

I wouldn't be using Lemmy/the Fediverse if it weren't for the devs of this app. I hope we can keep it alive as long as possible, like the fediverse itself. Decentralization is why the internet has prospered this far. It would make sense to have a social internet that's decentralized too

[โ€“] [email protected] 37 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It's already in the place of RIF.

[โ€“] [email protected] 18 points 2 years ago

Same I replaced my RIF with this app and use it daily just as I used to do with RIF. When I get the funds plan on donating.

[โ€“] intelati 8 points 2 years ago

It's a pretty good alternative. A bit "janky" but it's a alpha app.

[โ€“] StoicLime 33 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Just here to say that I love the animation when collapsing comments. So slick.

[โ€“] joekar1990 11 points 2 years ago

It took me way too long to figure out what the + numbers meant, but yes super slick and love the color difference in comments. Easier for me to follow and see where I'm at.

[โ€“] ToastyWaffle 9 points 2 years ago

It's brand new too, I literally asked the dev for one tap comment collapsing and he added it the next day or so.

As a fellow Software Engineer/architect myself, really nothing but praise for these guys.

[โ€“] OtakuAltair 9 points 2 years ago

It is indeed very satisfying.

[โ€“] [email protected] 30 points 2 years ago

Jerboa's been great for me. Sure it's kinda glitchy, but they've already made huge improvements in just a couple weeks. Awesome work devs, now... get back to it! ๐Ÿ˜…

[โ€“] PencilPossessor 23 points 2 years ago

I'm currently using jerboa, it's pretty close to Reddit feel, so I like it, cuz that's what I've been used to x.x

[โ€“] [email protected] 23 points 2 years ago

Yup, Jerboa has been great for using Lemmy on mobile. There are some features I miss coming from Relay, but it's all minor things that don't really impact the overall useability.

[โ€“] cdipierr 20 points 2 years ago

Agreed! Using it myself.

[โ€“] Caboose12000 18 points 2 years ago (5 children)

I straight up would not be on Lemmy today if not for the jerboa app. literally my only gripe with it is I think the icon for it is ugly af, but that's just opinion and everything else about the app is great!

Big thank you to all the hard work and the neck break development pace lately!!

[โ€“] [email protected] 17 points 2 years ago

What's even better is that the pace of development on Jerboa is extremely high at the moment, there are a lot of features and fixes that are ready to go but have to wait for the next release of the Lemmy server software.

You can follow (and help) development here: https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa

[โ€“] sanmarzano 17 points 2 years ago

Word up. When the Reddit collapse happened, Jerboa was ready to fucking rumble.

The fella (fellas?) behind it did a great job of building the right app to be ready for when the world needed it.

[โ€“] [email protected] 15 points 2 years ago

It basically replaced the Relay for reddit app for me. Works pretty good.

[โ€“] SourDrink 15 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hopefully this is the floor and we only go up!

[โ€“] BarrelAgedBoredom 15 points 2 years ago

Jerboas a solid app! Coming from RIF, it's offered a pretty familiar experience. Considering this app is pretty early in its development I'm excited to see what they do with it

[โ€“] [email protected] 14 points 2 years ago

Yeah, Jerboa is nice, I can't wait to see what it will become in the future, thanks for all the devs who are working on Lemmy and Jerboa ๐Ÿ™

[โ€“] fruity 13 points 2 years ago

Had a pretty much seamless transition from Infinity to Jerboa. Well done indeed.

[โ€“] WhiteOakBayou 12 points 2 years ago

Jerboa has been great for me. Helped fill the rif size hole in my media consumption.

[โ€“] [email protected] 12 points 2 years ago

Good job devs, your work is appreciated!!

[โ€“] [email protected] 11 points 2 years ago

I agree, it looks and feels very nice and clean. Of course there's still some small bugs, but it'll only get better with time.

[โ€“] [email protected] 10 points 2 years ago

It's great to see what happened in the last 3 weeks. Thanks a lot to the developers.

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

Agreed, thanks for a great app! ๐Ÿ’

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (7 children)

I wish there was backwards compatibility though, because I can't use most instances (that are Lemmy 0.17.4) with the new Jerboa v0.0.35-alpha ๐Ÿ˜”

Was my first choice, but the app would not stay open. Installed fresh on Note 10+ and it would not actually start open long enough to acknowledge the first screen of notes before crashing.

I'll keep an eye on it, but makes me sad ๐Ÿ˜ข.

Love to see Jerboa on my Homescreen.

[โ€“] nei7jc 6 points 2 years ago (6 children)

I love Jeroba too but it just crashes after loading so I have to use the web or Connect.
