That's the truth. "Smoke..." Is the weakest song on the album. I have the CD in my car's changer and listen to it about every two weeks.
I believe that the main fault of Smoke on the Water is how chewed down it is.
I won’t say it’s a bad song, but it might be one of the worst (least good?) Deep Purple songs. I have always felt like Man on the Silver Mountain has a better version of the riff anyway.
