The game is supposed to be an ominous and foreboding ARPG, and instead I run across BgButzzzz6nine, or I start moving towards some creatures on the other side of my screen, and before I've taken two steps some Necromancer and undead horde come buzzsawing through the area like a scythe, and I have to try and find someplace where I can actually kill things. The isolated feel was a key point of the game, and added to the ambiance and feel of the game. Now, I can't go 2 minutes without getting that immersion ruined by some random intrusion by another player. Is there some way to not be surrounded by other people while playing the game?

I don't mind seeing people running around but I'd love an option to turn off nameplates. There's a rampant amount of I'm 14 and this is funny names and that breaks the immersion for me.

"There's a rampant amount of I'm 14 and this is funny names" i think I'm dying for this one. Thanks!

It's for this sort of thing that I have no interest at all in playing d4

Is it not an option like in Diablo 3? I set my game to invite only.

[–] betternotbigger 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There is no option to have your own game lobby. Dungeons and campaign quests are all instanced tho so you really only see people on the general map. Though in my experience there's only a few areas that are heavily populated, almost everything else feels like a ghost town or a solo experience.

[–] Rutrow_Raggy 1 points 1 year ago

Oh ok. I guess it's just felt that way then.

I'm pretty sure there is one? I have it on just to know who is other player, don't really notice names that much. But I thought there was an option to turn them off.

You're not wrong, seeing some the silly names is a bit jarring, especially when Blizzard didn't put in an Map overlay like in prior games because "it breaks immersion".

This shit is beyond annoying especially because their pin system fucking sucks. Half the time you have to go into one of those narrow corridor cave areas to find a dungeon it tells you to go the wrong way so you're outside of the area completely.

[–] Geek_King 8 points 1 year ago

With out the map over lay, I find my self constantly opening the map to make sure I'm not going the wrong way when I back track to get an unexplored area. It's crappy that the pin system doesn't do the GPS line in dungeons, that would be helpful.

Now that we're on the topic of things that take us out of the immersion, has anyone else noticed the huge number of enemies who spawn in by crawling out of the ground? Skeletons, sure, huge insects, sure, but a fucking grizzly bear!? Bandits just climbing out of solid ground, it's jarring.

their pin system fucking sucks.

Yeah! And the fact that you even have to use it in the first place to track mission objectives is just dumb. GPS should automatically be on for your currently tracked quest. That's like...what it means for something to be "tracked" in almost every other game.

Opening the fullscreen map on hardcore is stupid deadly too.

[–] Molecular0079 9 points 1 year ago

That was my first impression as well. Other people being in the game world is immersion breaking. My biggest pet peeve is that I can't fucking tell Necromancer minions apart from actual minions.

Offline mode (like in D2R) would be great for this game. Wish we had that option

You can't, but I'd try dissabling crossplay. That could reduce the number of players you'll find (and improve performance btw).

That being said, once you reach endgame you will find a lot of people on legion events, helltides and world bosses

[–] Rehwyn 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's my understanding that there's no way to disable this in cities and open-world areas. Dungeons are instanced however, so should remain solo unless you're in a party.

One thing you might consider trying is turning off cross-play. I haven't tested it yet, but that might at least reduce the number of people that show up.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Oh, I hadn’t thought of that. It’d be hard to test reliably though, probably just placebo town.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

As far as I understand that's not possible. The game requires an internet connection and consoles need to have PS Plus or Xbox Live.

That said, I seem to only run into people at major towns and most of the time they're shooting by me on a horse. When the game first launched I had a lot more interactions, probably because most people were still in Act I.

hopefully a toggle will be added to hide player names in the future. for now, there isn't a way.

dungeons are solo-able, are they not?

Unfortunately, I don't think so. I saw somewhere on reddit where someone suggested setting your system time to the far future so that you aren't "matched" with anyone, but I haven't tried it myself.

When I played the campaign, I only saw a handful of people in the open world outside of town.

When I finished the campaign and started doing world events in WT3 AND WT4, that's when I started seeing a lot more people.

If you're just running between Nightmare dungeons and ignore world events, you can probably avoid most people. I'd say once they put in the ability to teleport to Nightmare dungeons, you'll see even less people
