Ppl: Uh um, well...

Salmon: How did you know pink was my favorite color!

ppl: Uh, what?

Salmon: Yeah! All the prettiest flowers are pink! I also like the sense of calm the color instills, the feminine yet loud conveyance, the fact that it's the color of my birth stone...

ppl: oh, well, that's pretty cool

Salmon: And the fact that it reminds me of the blood of my enemies, and awakens my chaotic and violent nature upon seeing it!

Pink like your favourite food!

The salmon specifying “outsides” in the second line implies it knew its insides were pink and that pink was a possibility. Should’ve said “like my scales.”

One of the differences between wild and farmed salmon is their color. Wild salmon gets its pink color from the natural astaxanthin found in their diet, while farmed salmon is fed synthetic astaxanthin or dyes to give it a similar color.

Wild salmon has a more vibrant color compared to farmed salmon, which can appear pale or dull.

Am I blind, or in that entire article discussing the color of salmon meat does it not show a photo comparison?

[–] idunnololz 5 points 2 years ago

Often times they actually dye farmed salmon meat so consumers will not freak out over the grey colored salmon meat.

Farmed salmon (without astaxanthin or dye added) isn't very pink was their point I think?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Well, that's also a sign of poor nutrition in salmon.

Is the color named for the inside? I thought it was because of how they turn red, when they're on their way to mate (link for reference)

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The inside counts! That salmon is so superficial, it's making me sick smh

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Why are you sick? Are you allergic to salmon?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Is that even a thing, being allergic to a color?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

My ex said she was allergic to ginger...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I know some people from the 1800's who were allergic to a certain colour.

Granted, they weren't allergic, they were just counts. But ya know

I always wondered why firetrucks are painted human

[–] Ataraxia 17 points 2 years ago

Considering most people only see the meat it makes sense. Most people have no idea what they fish itself looks like.

Sockeye salmon are reddish pink. That's always what I thought the association was.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Sockeye aren't red most of their lives. Just when they return to fresh water on their endeavor to reproduce. ( die)

I find it interesting that their heads turn a different color than their body.

It is one of this world's only mercies that fish have very tiny brains and cannot fathom the concept that literally every other animal loves eating them.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 years ago

Idunno, I feel like they certainly fathom it to some degree. They have an awful lot of funky little predator evasion techniques for an animal with no fathom.

That whole schooling thing is a bunch of fish going, I know they like eating us, but I'd rather they eat YOU.

I do agree that they have no conception of humanity, just that sometimes their friends get raptured away by something that makes a boat noise.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 years ago

No, Salmon, calm down... It's not pink, it's salmon.... Because... We love you that's why

[–] sagrotan 5 points 2 years ago

And why am I colorblind? It's orange, u fish!
