People downvoting you didn't get the joke.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

This is hilarious.

Does it burn every time you piss on Aaron's grave

When I was overwriting all my posts with the Power delete suite script, i got many error 503 errors

Btw, as it's written in the fine print, if you delete your reddit account, all your posts and comments aren't deleted and they will keep them forever with no option to delete them anymore

Need to overwrite before deleting

[–] NewBrainWhoThis 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Even if you overwrite before deleting, I would assume reddit will keep the original message.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes but they can't use it or show

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah they can

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I did it not even half an hour ago and didn't get any errors. I have only my main account left. One last account before I leave for good.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Can that script overwrite comments or posts older than the last 1000?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Yes. I used it to purge my history. 13 years worth of comments and posts gone in a few minutes.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Looks like, at the end the counter said it overwrote 3500 comments

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't think that is compatible with GDPR, or?

[–] linearchaos 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

GDPR is wrapped around personal information specifically related to identifying someone. Well it's possible to have posts that can demanded to be taken down by GDPR the vast majority of the stuff on Reddit is not applicable.

There's a post on this link specifically talking about the part of the legal code that considers this

https://law.stackexchange.com/questions/28276/are-internet-forum-posts-considered-personal-data-under-gdpr

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I see, unfortunate

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

If you are in the EU, you should be able to force them to delete your account by filing a GDPR request.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Also, while I don't think it's nearly as comprehensive as the GDPR, I believe people who live in California can do something similar under the California Consumer Privacy Act.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

You should file a gdpr data request before you delete your account. Even in big corps, those requests can be a real PITA. And of course, mine will be followed by a redact session and a gdpr deletion request.

I wanna know if there's a way to sell an account to spammers?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] WhoRoger 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Niiiiccceee, could get a $100 for it maybe...

[–] sijt 5 points 1 year ago

Not sure how I'd value mine, I can't see any comparable ones. But then again my main is over 16 years old so has lots of karma, awards, membership to invite only subs with high profile users, mod permissions etc.

I suspect it's diminishing returns once you get past a certain account age and karma count if it's being used to spam or scam. Tempted to sell up and just draw a line under it though, it would feel dirty contributing to reddit after the way they've treated the people who actually generate value for them.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Everytime, they raise the bar

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

~~raise~~ lower

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Just deleted my account without any problems. Deleted all posts/comments via Redact before of course...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Redact is a very handy tool, I cleaned up lots of crap with that

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is there an app that can automatically gather every post & comment, later store this offline? Then i delite it on their servers with my account.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

PowerDeleteSuit does exactly what you need.

PSA first save your comment and post history then overwrite your posts first and wait a day, so the reddit history database only contains the garbage you entered. Unfortunate I missed it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ah I think I messed this up, too. But at least for me, I care more about Reddit not having it than it being lost forever.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

That would be so stupid of them. I would need more evidence to believe this. It would be hilarious if true.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How ridiculous and desperate. Clearly they know they're making the wrong decision and doing it anyway.

[–] BackOnMyBS 3 points 1 year ago

The people with the actual power are the board of directors and investors. All they care about is money. That's how they got to that position. As far as they're concerned, the right the decision is the one that makes them the most money. And by "them", I mean each individual. They are all fighting for themselves. They couldn't care less about each other, users, or the community. spez is being played like Ellen Pao. He's just the fall guy.

i requested all of my data almost a week ago from reddit and still haven't received any email from them. its required by law but they ignore it.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They even banned r/KbinMigration

Aren't Reddit admins afraid of the Fediverse trying to eat the portion of Reddit userbase? Don't worry, we have r/redditalternatives. Also, r/Mastodon and r/Fediverse are still on the scene.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I had to fill out and submit the form twice today to get it to go. The account deletion server probably sounds like a jet engine right now

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fortunately, mine is gone!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago
[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Mine is gone too with comment history

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Just deleted mine. No issues, but I only used it for a year or two. Maybe it's made differently for more productive accounts? Idk

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I haven’t tried to delete mine yet but I am glad I spent the time today and deleted my posts and comments (apart from most recent). 10 years worth of it! I will have it a bit to make sure they stay deleted. I heard about too many twitter accounts where the deleted posts come back

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What's the easiest way to delete everything?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I used http://redact.dev/ not sure if it’s the easiest way but it worked well for me. Lots of options too: exclude subs, pick only a time frame etc. Also does a ton of other SM

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Thank you I will check it out.
