Fediverse is a portmanteau of "federation" and "universe".

There are now multiple browser extensions to redirect outgoing links to subs in the threadiverse to your local instance of choice

Kbin Linker Extension
https://github.com/daniel-lxs/kbin-link

Lemmy Linker Extension
https://github.com/FackJox/lemmy-link

This is a major downside to how federation works currently and something we shouldn't need extensions for, but as a stopgap solution I am glad they exist.

@liaizon @fediverse In a way, this issue lies on browsers lacking decent support for custom-schemes, stuff like handling multiple handlers and ability to know if the scheme is registered at all (so a fallback can be presented instead).

Heck, it's even something that Mozilla was aware all the way back to 2010 and with the early Fediverse (OStatus) in mind. https://blog.mozilla.org/webdev/2010/07/26/registerprotocolhandler-enhancing-the-federated-web/

@lanodan @fediverse yep! this is coming even more apparent with the rise of even more federated spaces. come on @mozilla can we move browsers forward just a little in this area?

@liaizon @lanodan @fediverse @mozilla

Yea surely the browser should become the ultimate client for the fediverse.

I've basically embraced the idea and removed all apps and just gone webUI even on mobile.

Thanks for the heads up. Should be helpful

Nice! There's also a tool called sub.rehab with crowdsourced input on where communities have moved to (e.g. Discord, Kbin, etc).

Feel free to add in any other Reddit refugee locations!

@liaizon @fediverse That was fast. Those sprung up quickly.

@tchambers @fediverse would like to see them combined into one, seems quite trivial to combine those two with one of the microblog one and have one plugin that does it all.

@liaizon @fediverse NICE. I was hoping someone would make an extension like this. I love the Fediact extension for Mastodon.

I don't suppose those work when you want to open some links on one instance and some on another?

@liaizon @tchambers @fediverse Hundred percent agree we shouldn’t need these work arounds. However, it’s amazing the pace of change and how fast these issues are being resolved. Think about how long some of the issues continue to plague us on various platforms and tools from Apple Microsoft google and others.

@amart @tchambers @fediverse oh yeah I am super excited people are making these tools and working on ways to fix these problems. If we came together and worked collectively on some of these underlying issues it would be even more powerful.
