Even if Reddit did pay, what guarantie is there that they won't just leak it anyways? Not paying any hackers ransom is system admin 101.

That's not true with established ransomware gangs. They have a reputation to uphold, and as soon as there is a news article about them not paying up, all victims stop paying up.
