I remember a while back Google unveiled a better photo picker that won't make us go through the file structure to pick images.

Is that something developers need to implement because so far not a single app I use has implemented it.

Just wondering if there's any apps that do?

True, I don't know how many have implemented it, but I can at least confirm Moshidon (and probably Megalodon and official Mastodon) uses it.

Looking through my phone now.

Pixelfed uses the file browser, as does Bluesky and Canva and... Google Keep ๐Ÿ˜‚

Instagram still uses its native picker, as does Tumblr and Capcut and InShot.

Yeah, I think the official Mastodon client is one of the only apps I have that uses it.

This is a really good question, I thought It was already out

I'm pretty sure that's coming in Android 14, and I think google said they would also be adding the feature to Android 13 through a Play Services update

Apps can also ask to open one of your gallery apps to pick a photo. The Wallpaper and style app and Shortcut Maker are the only apps I can think of off the top of my head that use this, but I'm sure there's more.

I don't know why so few apps actually use the gallery apps method since it's so much more convenient. Here's what it looks like

(And then it just opens the gallery and let's you choose a photo)

Interesting. Fingers crossed the update comes soon because it's infuriating going through my files to find a photo.

The worst part is having to change the sorting setting every time cause its set to A-Z or something like that
