Almost finished, I expect to release it before the end of August.
Boost For Lemmy
Community of the Android app Boost for Lemmy
Awesome news!
Perfect!
Hello dev!
Awesome, what's your plan with the subreddit for boost?
It's completely fine if we go past tonight and end up in september. I think we all just want a good app. Out of curiosity I think I speak for a lot of us when I ask how everything is going and if it's coming now or if we should expect it to release one or two weeks into september? Thanks in advance my man!
The main development is finished. I want to publish it asap but I keep finding some bugs :( My plan is to upload a beta next week.
Thanks for your patience!
That sounds great! The endless bug hunt can get tiring, so thank you for going through that.
Be sure to take time for yourself too; I don't think anyone here is going to bail if you take a bit more time for yourself :)
That's so nice to hear! Better squash some bugs and have a better release than not. Take your time. We will survive.
lmost finished, I expect to release it before the end of August.
Looking forward to it!
I think Sync definitely did it right, I'm using it right now. Their pricing model is whack though, and I'm eagerly waiting to come back home to Boost.
Sync's pricing ist outrageous.
Yes it is, that's like the number one feedback lol
Not only the number one, but the only one. App works flawless. Is a beauty and... Yeah.. monetization is fucked
I wouldn't call it flawless, I liked the app but some features are quite iffy
If I knew Boost was coming out, I'd probably cave and get the $20 buy once. But right now I just bought the $2/mo since it'll probably be ready before then I'm hoping.
Good choice. I'm using free atm. Ads aren't even correctly implemented for me. Just gray boxes.
And here I just assumed that was Blokoda doing it's job for me.
How should sync do it in your opinion?
117 dollars for lifetime Ultra is wrong. Just saying. That's 15 Big Macs to remove ads and letting me cloud storage my settings.
How can that be a good purchase in anyone's book?
Edit: Sorry didn't anwer your question. I would set lifetime of Ultra at around 35-40 usd. And ad removal at 15 usd. I would also add a donate button for the people that wants to donate, since a lot of the Lifetime Ultra purchasers claim they bought to support the dev and nothing else. Let them do that how much they want.
Other free apps are closing in. And the free version of Sync is still the best app. I love Sync. But I won't paying harmful prices.
That's 15 Big Macs
another example where Americans will use anything but metric... /lh
Am American, loooove metric, I've convinced both my kids it's superior (thank you 3d printers). You're welcome.
Thank you, maybe somewhere in the future there's a world that only uses metric. No more googling "how much km is 5 miles".
Yeah I have to talk like this because apparantly the cost of food is a parameter in what price the dev has set per country. I can even quote the dev on meal costs being a factor in pricing. It's. Wierd.
lmao I was already thinking those prices seemed random
I remember there being just a small one time fee to get rid of ads on boost. Hopefully it will be the same this time around. The solution sync came up with just looks ridiculous in context of lemmy and all the apps for it.
The main feature I'm hoping for is a way to block instances and keywords, but those should ideally come from the lemmy backend itself.
Yeah. Sync works well, I'm using it right now. But it was always my second favorite Reddit client after Boost and that pricing is just ridiculous.
I have bought the "Pro" version of just about every single Reddit client, but 22โฌ to remove ads that aren't even working on my device is just ridiculous. And all the interesting features are paywalled behind the Ultra subscription anyway.
Can't wait for Boost.
In my country it's 117 dollars for lifetime Ultimate. 117 dollars. I don't even know what the most expensive app I've ve bought cost me. Maybe 8 or 9? Was prob a game for my son. Probably one he spent 15 minutes playing. To somehow end up making it feel like a worse purchase than that is a pretty good achievement.
only 22โฌ? I'm checking in at $134.99 CAD. for reference, Baldur's Gate 3 costs $89.99.
22โฌ is the "remove the ads I'm blocking anyway" price, no extra features. That's the one I usually always pay, for every app with a one-time-purchase ad-removal option. Because I really hate ads, don't like to have adware on my phone and I don't like not paying anything since my adblockers are really effective.
The "Ultra-Lifetime-Option" is 110โฌ, which comes to $162 CAD or two Baldur's Gates or two Unraid OS lifetime licenses.
wow you must have some expensive big macs
4.99 without a coupon, but there's always a coupon. Last time I had one I paid one Euro.
So this license is 22 Big Macs, or 110 Big Macs with coupons.
20usd one payment is very fair. I'd pay more for Boost, if it works well and promises proper support I think Boost is worth 60usd which is what a new video game costs.
People are being a bit scroogey on lemmy tbh.
They can charge anything of course, it is a free market. It would be nice of them to spare $3 for each purchase as a donation to users current server. A checkbox perhaps?
Personally, I wasn't too worried by the pricing model of Sync, and I'm usually tight AF - I think post- the great 3rd party client purge of Reddit it's clear to me just how much value they brought to my browsing experience, so I'm happy to support the developers.
I think people who say these apps already exist and it's just a case of porting to the Lemmy APIs are massively underestimating the actual amount of work involved to do these apps justice on Lemmy. ยฃ20 or so to support the developer and gain an ad-free experience seems entirely fair to me!
Same here. I'm still on the free version of Sync because I'm holding out for boost, but if it takes a few more months I'll definitely need to drop for a lifetime of sync. I NEVER spend money on apps, but boost I bought twice and I absolutely will again.
Can't wait for boost
I used to use Boost for Reddit a few years back. I've paid for a year of Sync Ultra but I'll still check out Boost when it releases.
Why a year and not a month? Or just free?
I used Sync for years and decided to do it as a way to show my appreciation to the dev.
This is the way
I also used it for years and showed appreciation when Sync was on reddit. Now I'm waiting for the competition to release their apps and I'll show appreciation to the dev that did the best job. And that will continue.
Currently using Sync, what's wrong with it? Not to be hostile, I used Boost for Reddit for awhile there, just curious.
I guess Sync has data sharing stuff to Google and many weren't happy with the pricing to get rid of ads. I haven't used it so just going off what I've seen on Lemmy. I'm just using Liftoff at the moment and it has been mostly smooth and perfectly fine. Smoother than other options I've tried.
Apps that serve ads have data sharing, it's how ads work. If you pay to remove ads the data sharing is also gone.
I didn't say otherwise. I was giving a generalization why some seem upset. Which to me was always strange to begin with. App makers should be compensated in some way.
No updates yet. Been using infinity for now and it's been working ok. A few bugs here and there but core functions are stable.
