I have personally not seen a big hit to my battery life since I started using voyager a month ago. I haven't looked at at individual app battery usage but the screen on time is similar to before and voyager is one of my most used apps.

I'm referring to the Android app that was released less than 2 weeks ago...
It's the same thing as the web version, really. I would not expect there to be any performance (including battery usage) performance since fundamentals it's the same code running the same way.
Surely the web version is also browser dependant ?
Sure, so if you choose a browser with a particular bad rendering engine it may give worse performance or battery life compared to the app-packaged version, which uses the system's built-in webview (Google Chrome engine in most cases) for rendering. If you're using a Chromium-based browser to open the web version it should perform just about identical to the app-packaged version since they're the same code and then also executing in the same rendering engine.
That's all very well, but I wasnt actually comparing the android app to the pwa, its quite understandable that they would be comparable in their efficiency...
I know your original post was talking about Voyager vs other apps you've tried but the whole reason we're this deep in the comment chain is because someone was talking about using Voyager for over a month and you said you're talking about the Android app that came out more recently. If you don't want to compare the PWA vs Android app versions of Voyager, what are we even doing here?
Probably best leave it there then..
Yeah I switched to that as well when it came out and I see no battery drain difference between the pwa and the native app. Maybe it is an issue because of the way the software on your phone handles battery optimisation. Could help the dev look into it if you add phone model and Android version(and if it stock or some other rom).
Edit - By specifying your hardware may help you to find out if others with same or similar hardware are also facing the issue
Its not big issue, was just something I noticed, as it was more than others I've been using, which have more or less been on par with eachother.
Do you have battery usage per hour statistics. You have piqued my curiosity with this statement
Do you use an app cleaner?
I do have one, or clear the cache manually
Not bad in my opinion.
