Following this on Twitter gives me existential dread.

Anti-vax sentiment dominates the threads, carried by some of the most influential people in the world and an army of blue check sycophants. Genuinely horrifying.

How "influential" are they really, though?

Sure, Joe Rogan has many listeners, but Twitter is pretty much irrelevant for the vast majority of people. It's a bubble of people who think their opinion is worth blasting out. It only seems relevant because journalists are part of this bubble.

Twitter had (according to its own numbers) 77mio daily active users in the US. That sounds a lot, but if you discount all the bots and people who just use is as a glorified RSS reader, the actual numbers are much lower.

It should be noted that Elon Musk is very much in danger of losing control of Twitter, because he's defaulting to Twitter's creditors.

Sure, in less than a year, he's lost 59% of Twitter's revenue and the value of the company has fallen 54% by Wall Street estimations. But the real danger is that Musk isn't paying his creditors, and that gives them leverage. They already have enough leverage, today, right this second to force Twitter into bankruptcy.

Good. Fuck Musk.

For a sliver of a moment i thought he was actually not a piece of shit, but then he went above and beyond to prove me wrong.

Musk’s face is worth an NSFW tag, every time I see his face my mood gets worse.

He just has this extra smug look to him like he's constantly aware that he's a huge troll and getting a rise out of everyone and loves it.

What really angers me is that he could have been a real life Tony Stark, in a good way. He could have been the guy bringing EVs to the masses and the masses into space. He has the money, charisma and impetus to push through a lot of moon shots and could have realized so many scifi dreams.

Instead he chose to become a pathetic troll with too much money.

When I only knew him for Tesla, I thought he was a decent guy. The more I learned (including his actions at Tesla), the less I liked.

People are stupid and you can't debate stupid

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

More than just "people" though. The three people named in the headline are not just stupid, but malicious and have vast seas of followers who will dote on their every move. Whenever Joe Blow says something stupid, it's one guy saying something stupid. But when Musk or Rogan say something stupid, their millions of mindless followers will eat up every word and follow along.

Dude needs to get off of twitter for his own health and safety. What a cess pool.
