Leaving Jeff Bezos in charge of 007 is basically the same as leaving the franchise in the hand of a Bond villain. Very obviously a bad idea.
At this point it will be an American movie produced by Kremlin assets who will bend themselves backwards not to insult China or any other authoritarian regime that might produce revenue. Who plays Bond matters little at that point.

Pierce brosnan was the best bond in my opinion. I might be a bit biased since my first exposure to the series was the game 007: Nightfire, but I stand by my opinion regardless.
That game was the mutt’s nuts. I’m still looking for a good way to replay it. I still remember how blown away I was when, in classic Bond fashion, it just threw me into a completely badass car chase/sniper mission before even showing a title screen.
Fun fact: there was a GBA port that, while it is pretty clunky in a lot of ways, is also unbelievably ambitious for the platform. Full 3D engine, multiple paths through levels, etc. It’s worth trying if you’re a big Nightfire and/or retro technology nerd.
I grew up during thr Roger Moore era but watched all the Sean Connery ones on VHS on a loop too. I think that Pierce Brosnan was "the most Bond" of them all but the goofy/ludicrous Roger Moore ones were the most fun. Watching what was obviously a grandpa trying to be suave and having twenty-something year olds (and even a teen) throw themselves at him was peak cringe absurdity, and they knew it. Everyone was in on the joke (which was the opposite of the Connery ones).
Oof, I'm glad you saw humor in the latter day Moore installments, but I avoid that era of Bond because my interpretation was that noone was in on the joke. If there was any sort of realization that Moore was too old for the role behind the scenes, they didn't let on with the choices they were making in front of the camera (and I think it's pretty well acknowledged that Moore, at least, felt like he had aged out of the character towards the end of his run). Idk if a bigger wink would have helped necessarily (that era of Bond already strays dangerously close to self-parody), but no-selling it didn't work for me either.
What if we have an otherwise respected American actor take the role and use a really bad English accent?

American Bond just makes no sense. It would be like Canadian Shrek instead of Scottish Shrek.

Unsettling
The first adaptation of a Bond book used an American.
I mean with so many movies, I would say it doesn't matter at this point. I basically have always just rewatched the old ones. Not every old one holds up, but they have created so many quality Bond movies and games that I can just go back and get my fix again.
I would also argue that the concept of Bond is very out of date and doesn't hold up in a modern setting. Its so fantastical and is basically middle age dude fantasy. Especially the aspects where young women just throw themselves at this older man. I did appreciate how the later Craig films seemed to acknowledge a need to move away from this. With partners he actually loved and female characters that carried over multiple movies.
Really, it might just be time for the series to die and that is okay.
