Sorry, but maybe I am missing something - have we found any proven side effects of microplastics? Please do not take this as a troll message, nor I am pro petrol or something, just a person who has studied about polymers. If I am not wrong - most micro plastics are inert. If something is highly reactive/toxic - it can not accumulate in large amounts. And plastics chemically are plenty inert. There is a whole seperate thing of toxic chemicals used in plastic industry that remain and sometimes (or regularly, in case of lets say PFAS or BPA, and millions more) come in contact with us. They are not micro plastics - they are unreacted/untreated/unwashed chemicals remaining from manufacturing. And for someone thinking why is the distinction neceessary - it is for research purposes only - if we attribute some thing which is caused by some complimentary chemicals to microplastics, we may not actually try as hard to find the issues with microplastics.

this article seems to be about its effects on the reproductive system which in recent time there have been some studies to indicate that is so but saying something is proven is hard to say with something like this that depends on statistics or mouse models.
