I think this might be partially a wrong expectation based on regular PC game sales that peak on release and taper off quickly.
In the VR space, especially such AAA titles that are rare, I would expect a much longer tail in sales. For example there are probably still quite a few people buying HL: Alyx despite it's age.
No shit, vr is still barely off the ground. Vr products are, at best, loss leaders and will be for a long time. At least until the economy recovers or headsets are cheap so people can actually buy them.
Shame really great game
