The Nintendo Switch 2 price tag may have been leaked via retailer placeholder. Whereas other similar leaks have come from some sketchy sources, this latest one has an air of credibility to it thanks to the addition of a couple of supporting images. Of course, only an official post from Nintendo itself will resolve what the final Switch 2 price will be.

A couple of images concerning the Nintendo Switch 2 have made their way online. They allegedly come from someone who works for Costco in Canada, with the second image supposedly supporting the information in the somewhat fishy first image. The initial photo to be shared online simply states “Nintendo Switch place holder” (with “place” spelled incorrectly) along with a price tag of $499.99. With this amount being in Canadian dollars, the current exchange rates for some major markets would be around $350 (US), €340, AUD$558, and £282.

The Switch 1 OLED is currently retailing at au$540 here so I would expect the new gen to round up to au$600.

  • It would place it under a PS5 digital (au$680) and Series X (au$800) positioning it as an affordable mainstream console.
  • It would leave the existing Switch 1 product lines competing with Series S (au$500) for the more budget conscious.
  • Of course the PS5 Pro (au$1200) is doing its own thing.

I’d be very surprised if Switch 2 had OLED screen at first.

I agree, but I can't see them pricing the launch model of the new gen lower than the previous gen models.

Of course they could drop the price of the Switch one models to maintain a price ladder.

But the inflation adjusted launch price of the Switch 1 from 2017 is equivalent to au$587.26 in 2024, so the Switch 2 looks like it would fit pretty nicely placed just above the current prices.

Nintendo can discount previous gen stuff once Switch 2 releases. Nintendo is likely to have a reasonable margin despite the inflation because they never discounted Switch since it released in 2017, just added more SKUs.
