Spoiler: an inscription translated as "This is the community's wealth/property" hints at the hoard being the communal treasure of the local populace, rather than belonging to specific nobles. This was the local village bank. Interesting that it is in this form rather than coins.
Coins are pretty useless unless you're a merchant traveling great distances or a noble who wants to publicly reward a follower. If we're neighbors, it's just easier for me to give you chickens for your cider.
