Resist: It's Time

We are still in this together, but "this" is going to be real different in the very near future. This demands a different kind of "we."

The French Resistance during Nazi occupation played important roles delivering downed Allied airmen back to safety, supplying military intelligence, and acts of sabotage.

The Underground Railroad is estimated to have brought 100,000 freedom seekers to safety between 1810 and 1850.

It's time.

Black powder firearms also do not require any paperwork, except in New Jersey. Can have them shipped to residential addresses too. They are occasionally bought by convicted felons who want to defend themselves but cannot possess regulated firearms.

I recommend .44 caliber cap and ball revolvers of the "Remington 1858" design. More robust than the Colts and the .44 is more effective than the smaller calibers in this case.

EDIT: You won't be looking to spend top dollar for actual antiques, if that wasn't clear. Modern functioning replicas, mostly made in Italy by Pietta or Uberti, are both available and reasonably priced.

Adding less-than-lethal alternatives:

A magazine-fed (for reliability) paintball gun can be loaded with pepper spray and hard plastic rounds. An example of a good value is the Tippman Stormer at $125. This should be paired with a 90g CO2 cartridge because a 12g won't even allow one full mag dump. It's also nice, but certainly not required, to have a HPA tank for practice.

Bear mace because its got the best range. If using it always expect to also mace yourself. All gel-based mace sucks: You won't mace yourself with gel but also won't disable the attacker.

Notes (compliments, not substitutes):

Firearm safety, especially pistols, can be learned and practiced with an airsoft replica. Many have the exact weight and function of a real firearm as well as roughly a third of the recoil of a typical 9mm.

Blinding the attacker with a very bright light severely reduces their ability to effectively attack.

Deafening the attacker with an air horn or siren is a very effective deterrent for all mammals, including humans.

Editorial:

The Socialist Rife Association exists.

Learn your local laws pertaining to "stand your ground" and the "castle doctrine".

Practice your home intrusion drill regularly so that it's automatic. You don't want to be wasting time thinking about how to go about it, then doubting your choices. Time is life.

I recommend having both lethal and a less than lethal choices available.

Edit: pretty sure I'm shadowbanned because a mod is power tripping. Any response to this post would be appreciated such that I know if I'm wasting my time contributing here.

Also, it's super easy to roll your own powder, patches and even bullets.

I wouldn't say "super easy." It's certainly in the realm of what's possible for a normal person who is good with their hands, but that's not everyone. A lot of people seem to conflate "possible" with "really simple" when it comes to handicrafts like this.

The powder in particular is quite tricky to do well.

It's a neat idea, but it seems pretty limited.

2 shot magazine and you have to re-pressurize the air tank after, what was it? 2.5/3.5 magazines? I forget, 5 or 7 shots and it's done.

The capacity isn't a big issue. It's the accuracy that matters.

Those particular models are decent at hunting distances. Not so much at longer ones.

They aren't meant to spray and pray, or even for sustained use. They're meant for a specific use case.

They also, imo, aren't great for the kind of game the pictures they use make it seem they're supposed to be good for. Penetration just isn't reliable, and falls off as the tank does. They'd be fine for some game, but you aren't taking down a deer with them reliably, or similar sized targets.

What they could do, in the context of this community, is discourage long pigs in certain circumstances. Move in, set up, damage a few targets with minimum sound, move out quick. Would a suppressed rifle be better? Absolutely. But, as the title of the post indicates, it's a workaround for when that isn't an option.

3dp2a might be cheaper, I think?

Edit: Easier to find ammo for, too.
