Two new rail lines the Andrews government promised to build in Melbourne’s outer west have been axed, watering down an election commitment to deliver frequent Metro train services to some of the nation’s fastest-growing suburbs.

The heart of the problem…

Rail Futures Institute president John Hearsch said that without new tracks, Metro and V/Line services would still be restricted to 18 trains an hour at Sunshine, limiting Melton and Wyndham Vale trains to their current frequency of every 20 minutes during the morning peak.

But I suppose the rail loop that serves all 10 people who currently catch the 903 bus is still on the agenda with a price tag of $100 billion. Good stuff Andrews.

srl is stupid on many levels but it would definitely be heavily used, iirc monash has the biggest bus terminal in Melbourne.

I think that one's quietly being shelved as well. With the budget shortfall there's no way it could get funded.

Didn’t they sign the construction contracts in November? That it’s not like the budget issue sneaked up on them.

I just checked and it doesn't look like any contracts have been awarded yet. My tip is than none will be.
