General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

The Scots should force through their independence so that Sunak has no access to the oil. Short-sighted twit.

British government would never let go of the oil and gas in the North Sea.

You're not wrong. But it would be nice to watch him squirm 😏

How would they go about doing that given that they have to get granted permission for another referendum from Westminster and if they choose not to and leave illegally, they become a rogue region that the EU won't touch with a bargepole?

If they hold a referendum and Westminster is like, "nope". I'm pretty sure international pressure would get them out.

Not really as lots of other countries have regions that would like to break away that this would embolden. Catalonia or the Basque regions in Spain and France for example.

Catalonia voted 90% in favour of independence just for Spain to be like no 🥹

Exactly, do you think Spain sare going to be keen to let in Scotland if they illegally leave the UK and embolden them?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

No, I was referring to the referendum the people of Catalonia had, not them trying to invite Scotland 😂
