This past Friday my best friend Kai took his life at Lahilahi. I'm not trying to dump this on any one but its been the hardest thing I've had to go through since my own suicide attempt almost 20 years ago. I made this video to share with our community and to cherish his memory, but I also consider you, lemmy, a part of my community. So I'm sharing this with you because you are all part of my ohana. But if you have someone in your life that you are worried about please cherish them. Its so easy to get wrapped up in our own struggles and miss those who are falling behind around us.

I'm posting it here because there is no place I could find more appropriate.

Well shit. I watched the video. I read your words, and now there's tears for Kai here in the Appalachians

When I was much younger, one of my two best friends, people I considered closer than a brother, took his own life.

That was in 1993. I have never forgotten him, I still love him, and I still miss him.

Kai is going to be with you in the same way because love doesn't die when the body does. That love lasts. Your message, about cherishing those we love, that's a truth. It may not stop the worst from happening, but they'll know they are loved, and that's all we can really do sometimes.

With my friend, Rick, I had last seen him the night before. When he left, we hugged, I told him I loved him. I thought I would see him the next day, but I'm so glad we were the kind of young fools that weren't afraid to share love. Losing him was hard, but I could hold on to being certain he knew he was loved.

It's pretty obvious in your video that Kai knew he was loved. He's shown around people sharing love with him, and that's a beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing it with us.
