So, what nutrients were believed to only be available from animal based sources, and what plant based sources are they able to come from now?

I see a lot of people on both sides but nobody is discussing the actual nutrition deficits (or lack thereof)

That's a strawman. Cats need to eat a plant-based kibble formulated with the necessary taurine and b12.
