Outgoing President Joe Biden on Monday moved to permanently ban offshore oil and gas drilling across more than 625 million acres of U.S. coastal territory, protecting swaths of the East Coast, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific, and Alaska's Northern Bering Sea from fossil fuel exploitation just before President-elect Donald Trump is set to retake power.

Permanently*

Until the next court strikes it down and Trump takes office.

It's part of the same old song and dance.

trump broke fossil fuel production records, then Biden broke them, now Trump's gonna break em again.

Its what happens when the fossil fuel industry realizes they can just buy both options.

Some performative stuff gets done so both can claim to be the lesser evil, but profits always go up. This "ban" is likely just because it's not as profitable as fracking right now, so the big players don't want it touched, they want it saved for later.

Look at fracking and Pennsylvania this election, almost all voters surveyed said it needs regulated, and floated right at 50% +/- 2% on outright banning fracking...

Both candidates pledged to leave it alone.

And all voters were told it doesn't matter because the only two options agreed, so we had to care about social issues the rich don't give a fuck about.

Oil production was increased during Biden’s term to prevent Russia from funding their invasion of Ukraine by selling their oil on the black market to avoid sanctions.

I can’t find anything to support your claim about fracking in Pennsylvania.

There's always an excuse to pay campaign donors back....

And if you get specific for what you want about Pennsylvania I could find a source for you, but I can't tell what you're saying you couldn't find.

So you would prefer we help Russia fund their invasion of Ukraine by not undercutting their black market oil?

And if you get specific for what you want about Pennsylvania I could find a source for you, but I can't tell what you're saying you couldn't find.

You need me to get specific about your claims?

So you would prefer we help Russia fund their invasion of Ukraine by not undercutting their black market oil?

How exactly does oil going to a white market prevent 3rd parties from purchasing cheaper oil on a black or grey market?

America isn't producing more oil to undercut Russia, they are producing more because they cornered Russia's previous market cap.

You need me to get specific about your claims?

Yes...

What part do you want a source on?

I'm trying to help you understand, you seem to want an argument. I'm not getting roped into that.

So either specify what you can't find a source on so I can help, or dont expect more replies.

Quick edit:

Actually nevermind, I'm just gonna call this one. If anyone else wants a source, please be specific and I'll try to find it if you're having difficulty as well.

Yeah this is a 100% bullshit political maneuver by Bidey. Oil and gas drilling did achieve record highs during his admin.

[–] Raiderkev 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

How is it permanent? Trump's probably just going to completely undo it and no one will say a damn word.

[–] ZapBeebz_ 22 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This is more permanent than it could be...instead of being able to be undone via executive order, it would take an incredibly rare and twisted court ruling or an act of Congress. Neither is that unlikely, however repealing it won't be unilateral, and that means it'll take time and political capital.

rare and twisted court ruling or an act of Congress

you mean like how roe was trashed? or literally any other example of courts and congress doing exactly what trump wants?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

I mean he does have the trifecta so he could undo basically anything (non-filibusterable) if he sets his mind to it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are people just figuring out that law is complicated? You’re right, it can be undone through corrupt actions but that doesn’t mean that the Biden administration hasn’t taken the steps they could to make it permanent.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

i think it's been pretty thoroughly demonstrated that the law doesn't apply to trump

No one will escape his terror. Not women, not the immigrants who do all the hard work, not the planet or Bea Arthur fanclub members. Any joy in this world will suffer because Obama told a joke that one night.

He's a man, not a god. This isn't just him, it's a country more focused on money and fame and disaster than on quality of life. 🤷‍♂️ We live in a reality TV nation here in America. We have been building this for decades.

They aren’t going to play by the rules, the justice system already proved that republicans can break the law and not face consequences.
