What is the difference between this and Lutris? Is there one reason I keep hearing about this launcher over and over and over this past week?

I thought Lutris launched all the games?

Heroic is my preference on my Steam Deck. I can easily get into it to install / uninstall any of my Epic/GOG games right to the non-Steam portion of the games library.

I liked Lutris when I used it on my old laptop, but it's a little more fiddly, I only use it rare games now that aren't covered by everything else (like last time I played WoW, Lutris ended up being the best way to install / launch it).

I have heroic added to Steam (ironically) but it works well so I can launch it easily from both desktop and gaming modes.

(just set it up recently because Control was free on Epic for Christmas, the hdr mod works great on the OLED)

I use it because it works well and is more practical of installing each launcher separately. It also works great for install directX and specific codec of ~~pira~~... ehm, "other" non-steam games.

So the Lutris launcher doesn't work well with DirectX and "other" non-steam games?

Never tried, honestly Heroic do pretty much all i need. If i'll ever need to, i'll test it out. 💁‍♂️

It's mostly up to preference.

I like Heroic for its UI. For the most part, you just sign in to the different storefronts, install a game, and it just works.

Others like Lutris for the amount of control it gives you. It also has more out of the box support for games launchers.

I tried Lutris and couldn't intuitively figure out how to link things up and get started. Heroic was obvious, store navigation is obvious, and game management was obvious. Maybe Lutris is great, I wasn't willing to read a guide out watch a video to find out.
