While the loops project has not been made open source yet, does anyone have an idea how they do it? Videos are data heavy and require lots or bandwidth and storage. Is the data centralized ? Where is it stored? Will we be able to self host an instance at some point?

It's going to be open sourced soon. It's written in PHP, and it's partially on the Fediverse (@[email protected] is available via ActivityPub, but not every account). It saves on compute somewhat by having your phone do the transcoding before uploading.

All of this is just occasionally browsing @[email protected]'s posts to see what's up.

Pixelfed have a collaboration with Digital Ocean that provides them servers. I saw this somewhere, don't remember where
