If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

The only one in my neighborhood is from 5 years ago, but it's an adorably angry Screech!

eBird has some good maps if you want to see what is in your area too.

This website pulls from eBird is my guess. There's an entry from my brother from when he visited last year, and he's big into eBird.

Nobody in my neighborhood, or the adjacent neighborhoods, has posted any owls online. But looking at the map of where people post, there are dots kind of near me so it seems I should definitely be able to find some owls!

They're just about everywhere, they're just champs at hide and seek!

Yup, Barred Owls.

That's what I thought the ones I've seen/heard are, and lots of other people nearby are reporting them too.

Maybe I gotta get out and spot them sometime

Just attract massive amounts of rodents to your home, and they'll come to you! 🤣

Or I suppose you could go to them too... 😉

Hmm, I don't think that's the best idea I've heard

I sometimes hear them when I'm out walking the dog in the morning, but I rarely actually see one. :(
