Mike Judge is out here busy making or being involved in quality shit like the upcoming Common Side Effects.
Luke Wilson is not an imaginative person, based on his pitch in the article here.

To be fair, he’s just an average joe
Dude needs a paycheck and apparently, he likes money.
He likes chicks too? We should hang out.
Where does he stand on gentlemen’s lattes?
Seriously, they should hype and release a sequel to idiocracy, but have it be a legitimate documentary covering the last decade, but with the save tone and narrator as the movie.
Why when I can just turn on fox news?
Well, we've already had part 2 from 2016 to 2020. Part 3 is coming out soon. I wonder how they're going to top that.
It's the final part of a trilogy - they're going to turn everything up a notch. More danger, more explosions, more deaths and a shock ending that leaves the door open to a sequel trilogy (or it reveals that this was all a Handmaid's Tale prequel).
I can only see one result of this: a debilitatingly self-aware nod to the previous one so obviously written by DNC partisan hacks that it feels empty compared to the original.
If I was Mike Judge, I would never do a sequel to Idiocracy because I don't want people to get any more ideas about how the future should go. We already are too close to the first movie as is.
Maybe Luke's character goes back in time to present day and then spends the rest of the movie trying to get back to the future.
