No shit. They keep ramping up the prices for cards that have the size and power consumption of a household appliance while they completely ignore the market of people just looking for something that runs a game smoothly in 1080p without overpaying. On top of that anyone who bought a card in the last 5 years just don't have a reason to upgrade right now.

The Battlemage series might turn out to fill that gap. But even there it will only capture the market of people who have been holding off buying a new GPU for almost a decade.

I bought a 7800XT this fall and am very happy with it, FWIW

The 7800XT is over one year old and they're still selling it for $500. That used to be the normal price for a bleeding edge GPU that was just released and then within six months the price would drop below $200 new, at which point it was a good deal for anyone wanting a decent GPU that will last them a few year. Ever since the pandemic, with the scalpers, NVidia and AMD realized they can just charge highway robbery prices and get away with it and aren't offering anything reasonably priced anymore.

Intel smelled blood and are going for that newly opened gap in the market. I'm just waiting for the independent reviews to make sure there aren't any major issues and probably going to have one in my new machine next year.

Kid just built his very first pc and the 7800 xt is a pretty impressive card. I'm jealous.

Isn't that nearly top of the line.....?

What is more important to me is the next AMD GPUs.

I caved in and bought a new GPU this month, so what's more important to me is the prices of AMD GPUs in the next decade.

What a poor time to cave but I am sure it was for a good reason.

It was: the dollar will probably get higher here in Brazil in the next year, I got a fairly decent deal for the RX 6600, my other parts are rather new so the GPU was the bottleneck, and the old GPU was a NVidia GTX 580 that I installed in my computer while my nephew was still a baby. Like, I remember him playing around me and my computer as I was building the computer, nowadays the same nephew wears a stubby beard! I wish that I could've bought it earlier but well, Latin America, you never have money when you need it.

You missed the time to upgrade, last year there was a craze going around on gpu discounts, Kabum and Pichau had deals all the time. I bought a 6750 XT for 2400 reais, and a month later it was down to just 1950 reais, the 6600 was selling for little over 1100 reais. And even some Nvidia gpus were with good prices, I remember the 3060 12gb selling for less than 1400 reais.

I actually got a good deal for the 6600, only ~~um barão e duzentos pila~~ 1199 reals. I also remember seeing the 6750 XT, plenty times the price was a bit lower than you've mentioned. But I bought my GPU by, like, checking Terabyte+Pichau every bloody single day. (I refuse to buy it from Kabum after MagaLu bought it - quality went rock bottom after it.)

Enjoy it, man. I hope you are happy with your purchase and serves you well for a long time time

Yeah, cus they're still trying to charge chip shortage/cryptominer prices for gaming graphics cards.
