I saw a black cyber truck this weekend. My wife and I both laughed. Mate, you can’t make it invisible by painting it black.

Such a hideous vehicle.

You have to wrap the Cybertruck to prevent body rust.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

wheeze 🤣

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No no, they are not trying to make it invisible, Cybertrunk buyers wants the attention it provides, good or bad. The wrap is probably for rust and looks.

Wait, isn’t it stainless steel?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Unfortunately for Tesla saltwater can still corrode many forms of stainless steel. And the roads in many places get covered in salt and water.

It will probably still hold up better than a carbon steel body panel with compromised paint, so I wouldn't expect the panels to just rust through anytime soon. But I would expect some discoloring and pitting.

Frankly, the cybertruck rust is 100% inexcusable. Elon Musk is absolutely incompetent compared to John Delorean, who managed to pick the right stainless steel alloy even while being distracted by both the Troubles and cocaine smuggling.

[–] Duamerthrax 4 points 3 weeks ago

Deloreans also shipped with instructions on how to clean them. Cybertruck owners can't be expected to read a book.

Deloreans can also rust. Stainless isn't rust proof. If you put your stainless steel kitchen wear out in the weather, it will get some rust on it. Thing is, Deloreans shipped with instructions on how to maintain the finish.

What vehicles are worse than the Cybertruck?

[–] officermike 29 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I mean, Dodge still makes cars.

I actually couldn't find which specific models have had more recalls to date than Cybertruck (only projections for the future), but based on data from https://www.iseecars.com/car-recall-study#v=2024 , it's not looking good for Porsche or Tesla.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Dodge against all reason and logic still makes cars.

Dodge is a brand made by Chrysler, just fyi.

I'm quite aware of the relationships between automotive manufacturers.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ford as a hobby or something issues recalls.

The good news is they're pretty quick and responsive to fix their issues unlike Toyota which will wait until the NHTSA forces them to issue a recall.

[–] Anticorp 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Toyota seems to be a pretty shitty company all around.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

The ASUS of car manufacturers.

Hey, if you get one and it doesn't need a repair from the manufacturer out of your pocket, I'm happy for you.

They said, they hold their value on the low end of the market because that market doesn't give a shit about a warranty anyway.

[–] Anticorp 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

What are the 9% of cars that are worse?

Those are a good deal safer than a Tesla. You won't burn to death in a Little Tike because rescue services can't open the doors, or break the windows.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

In a reasonably recent UK survey, only the Land Rover Discovery and the Volvo XC90 were more badly made than Teslas.

Was surprised at the XC because the engines are rock solid, but apparently the electrics are fucking atrocious

Discoverys have always been horrendously bad, and sorry, if you bought one you shouldn't be in charge of major financial decisions like that

Aren’t most of these “recalls” just software updates? How does it fare in actual physical recalls?

[–] Aermis -2 points 3 weeks ago

Imagine if every car was under as much scrutiny as elons tesla and cyber truck.

[–] brlemworld -2 points 3 weeks ago

Most are OTA software updates. This stat is useless and deliberately misleading
