What about chaotic positivity? That’s more my vibe.

Fuck you! Have a seed bomb!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Lol serious question: what’s the advantage of a seed bomb over just scattering seeds? I had some old wildflower seeds without a plan for what to with them so I scattered them around this fall before the rains but should I have made them into seed bombs instead of just direct sowing?

Built in fertilizer, and easier to throw to places hard to reach otherwise.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

That makes sense. I’m not sure the plants I was growing would benefit from fertilizer though. A lot of urban soils are overly rich for our native plants here anyway.

Where's this toxic positivity the world is so full of?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 5 days ago

“We are literally turning into a nazi country”

“Chin up kiddo, it probably won’t be that bad!”

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 days ago

Christmas carols playing in shops.

Genocide denial.

People refusing to talk about politics.

Climate change apathy.

Carnism apologism.

Talking about the world's problems is hard and people don't want to do it. They want to think positive. But playing your fiddle while the world burns just leads to ruins.

google “positive vibes only”
….
also “hi how are you?” “good how are you?”.
“oh you dropped your smile!”.
look on the bright side….

also you can’t get a job anywhere without pretending like you’re happy….
write depressing shit asking for help on facebook? that gets filtered out….
have a tragedy happen that makes you sad? watch all of your friends disappear….
women are especially expected to fake happiness all the time and never be angry….

i could go on, but hey, cheer up! or else…

I only see toxic negativity at every turn

Miley Cyrus's I can buy myself flowers is what comes to mind.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Huh. I thought that has a "respect yourself" vibe, not a "house is burning, but life is great" vibe.

[–] wolfcatreader 2 points 5 days ago

Thank you for sharing what the song meant to you. I can see how it highlights self-respect.

For me, it meant, I don't need anybody else, I can do everything on my own and please myself. Because once I start mingking with others, I'm bound to get hurt. Hence, I can buy myself flowers. Yes, it's great being self-reliant, however I feel it is limited as we are humans and can not make it through this world on our own as each of us brings some needed value to our society.

I'm thinking about our ancestors living in tribes and that we evolved and still exist because of our ancestors highlights on togetherness, and community, which is why our species survived. Yes, I admit that with tech advancement, it may be masked that we can make it out on our own. More importantly, we are social creatures and our well-being is deeply factored by belonging, relating and connecting with others. If the aforementioned negates, our well-being will pay the price.

Another silver lining of the pandemic. I feel like it pushed toxic positivity back by decades. You can find toxic positivity burried under the mountains of PPE trash floating in the ocean.

I work in IT, it used to be fun. Now it's just a bunch of people with toxic positivity that don't want to hear anything unless it's positive. I absolutely hate these people

I don't like to feel good; I like to feel evil.

[–] wolfcatreader 6 points 6 days ago

Yas! Expressing not-so-pleasant emotions and struggles that makes us humans seems to become toxic.
