I'm about to boot up Community Pom and I think I'm finally going to give Final Fantasy a go with 16 next week π€
JRPG
Most recent game I finished was Octopath Traveler 2. I rarely have time for games these days so it's a small miracle I finished it.
I started FFXVI but I'm not into all the violence and GoT type stuff, so I've backed away unfortunately. I'm glad it exists and I'm happy it's doing well. As a FFXIV player I'm definitely happy for YoshiP.
Speaking of which, I'll be going to Fanfest later this month. I haven't played for realsies in a hot minute but I'm still looking forward to itβ’.
Been playing some Yakuza Like A Dragon. Good game, but I'm not sure I'll finish before Trails Reverie is out
I loved LAD! Story-wise it was as good as the previous yakuza entries, but the turned based combat suits me better.
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. The battle system is still a bit messy in how it is implemented (like the way areas of effect always feel a bit random), but it suits me much better than the base system!
Runs like a charm on Steam deck, btw π
Been playing Bravely Default and Blue Reflection recently.
I should get back to blue reflection, had some performance issues on my steamdeck (happened with all of the Gust games i tried), but i really liked the concept of the game
I was in the process of playing Persona 5 Royal on PC, and then Tears of the Kingdom launched.
I'm just slightly north of 100 hours of playtime in Tears, but once I finish this game I'll work on Persona 5 again.
So far, I love Persona 5. It's an interesting game, has my attention, and is my first entry into the Persona series. Some of the story beats are a bit weak in this game, but I appreciated the opening and the first main quest. I'm on a slightly weaker plotline at this point, so I'm curious to see where the rest of the game takes me. After I finish it, I'll sit down and have my post-mortem to reflect on this game and see if it'll be a top tier in my book, and if I'll explore the other games in the series next.
However, I have a backlog of Tales Of games to play, plus Trails Of (which seems to have caught my attention, too, but never played).
Iβve been playing the Mysterious Arc of the Atelier series. Itβs mostly very chill experience, and it can just be you, your alchemy pot, and a notebook. The depth of story of the Atelier series is definitely far shallower from that of Trails (which Iβve finished up till CS4, and am waiting for Reverie, which comes out in about 2 days from now!), but it holds up enough as a more relaxing, simple (imo too simple), and enough to get players to follow along.
I'm about halfway through Trails in the Sky The Third. It's been really fun going through this trilogy. I'm surprised it didn't catch my attention when it first released.
Nice to see a fellow Trails enjoyer! I am still yet to play Trails to Azure, but have already finished Zero and Cold Steel II.
I haven't played any JRPGs in June, but was pretty satisfied with Chained Echoes last month. It's shocking how one person (well, almost) could make such a polished game.
I'm playing SMT Nocturne. Last year, I fell in love with SMT 5 and even enjoyed it more than Persona 5, so Noctune is the next best thing to play.
I started SMT 5 a few months ago, loved the atmosphere and combat system but could not get into the story.
I couldn't tell you much about the story. I believe it was some kind of race to become the next god or something? Typical SMT stuff, I suppose. However, that wasn't important to me despite all my other favorites being on the list at least partially because of the story. SMT 5 was more of a JRPG puzzle game. Playing on hard, there was always something I couldn't overcome and needed to plan my party around, which paired with the awesome combat system and meaningful exploration was just pure destilated JRPG fun for me.
