So, one day ago l created my own community [email protected] and it kinda blew up quickly. Now lm looking for mods because of these reasons:

  • Im not very active on Lemmy. I only spend like 20-30min/day.
  • l have other stuff to do.
  • l don't want sit all day on front of computer to moderate.
  • l don't want be exposed to NSFW content Can you give advice how to choose right moderator for your community?

lf you're already moderate a few mid-sized communites and want moderate my community, then l can hire you.

Thank you <3

Post in the community asking for (volunteer) mods.

Your community is so new that you might as well look to the few users who have contributed so far (OpenStars, Tux, etc). Clearly, they've identified with the group and may be interested. I would check out their comment history just to ensure their general behaviour aligns with your expectations, and go from there.

My typical method of checking is to look at the mod log at the very bottom right of this page (next to Legal), and search for their name. Activity there does not rule someone out, especially bans from .ml, but it'll help you make a judgement. Then I'll spot check their history, both for content and how often they post. People who are going to be on the site regularly anyway tend to be better moderators, as they'll both notice their notifications and spot things without being prompted.

Unfortunately, tech_memes is still too new to offer any suggestions on who to pick. The one name I do have I'd quickly rule out from my previous interactions with them (likely troll).

Generally moderating a community shouldn't take more than 5 minutes a day (a little more some days, a little less most every other day). It's part of the reason we try to find a lot of moderators to do a low number of communities each. Hopefully you're not getting that many reports on different content.

If you're still having issues, reach back out to us in a week or two and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks,

You would be best to make an announcement post in the community. From there comments there you can promote them to mod.

If you need someone to wack posts down I am on too much and always sort by new.

People get paid for moderating?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Unless it's against Lemmy TOS, why not?

If you can provide a living wage, you can hire me.
