The showrunners of the original Game of Thrones series (David Benioff and Dan Weiss) famously wanted to conclude the series with three feature films instead of its 2019 final season.

Holy revisionist history Batman!

There were some informal chats that took place based on an interview that happened years later.

FAMOUSLY Benioff & Weiss wanted to move on from Game of Thrones. FAMOUSLY they had a number of future projects all lined up (most of which were FAMOUSLY cancelled after the last season aired).


In terms of actually making a film set in the universe, sure. It's a big world with plenty of lore. Some stories just don't have enough content for a full season or miniseries. Aegon's Conquest or Robert's Rebellion might work for this.
