Be kind to each other! This is supposed to be a wholesome place.
Welcome man! Comment as much as you can lol. Let us know if you get lost
I'm just here so I don't get fined
Hi everyone I'm Petertree, 10 year reddit user. I like Jazz, Linux Cars, and computers. I'm based in Ohio
I understand you meant to put a comma between Linux and Cars but I also really love the idea of a Linux car and what that would actually mean :)
Ooooooh now you've got me tempted.
Are you following the whole right to repair movement thing at all?I'd absolutely love a Linux car that's open source!!!
Hey all! I'm Eddie I'm a security officer by day, huge computer/tech nerd by night.
Also a big music guy and love writing and recording my own material.
Looking for cool places to hang out online. Maybe this could be one of them?
what sort of music/instruments? I used to dabble around with sousaphone/tuba back in the day (have a curved bell 4-key full brass tuba in my computer room now but havent played it in decades - lost my chops).
Post your music! I play keys and guitar and I like making neosoul music (nothing good enough to upload yet)
Come join me at https://Lemmy.world/c/JazzFunk if you have any neo-soul/R&B song recs
Hi! I am a database admin from the Netherlands and I run some fediverse instances. Also I play pool and collect music.
Hi Ruud! I've seen your name around! Welcome!
So, hey! I'm an internet person that's floated around etherspace awhile, not that long, but at least long enough that I remember ol' forums and stuff like StumbleUpon.
I'm into some webcomics and really enjoy reading, but I'm also really bad/good about both getting a bunch of books & making lists of books to read and just kind of sporadically reading some of them. I dabble in a lot more, but this is me trying to keep it brief, so I'm stopping here.
Wait a sec, I'm getting some deja vu... 😜
I jest, it's early days, there's a ton of these around!
Haha if only I knew!
Share your favorite web comics!
Wildly different tonally, but I enjoy Questionable Content, Dresden Codak, and Rice Boy. The last one is a complete longform comic, so of the three it's probably the easiest to recommend checking out.
The first two are still on-going, which I enjoy, but means there can be some catching up for either the stories or story arcs happening (in the case of QC). Then again, you can kinda drop into Questionable Content whenever, as it's definitely the chillest of the three, but there's still low stakes lil' story arcs happening.
Honestly I have no fuckin idea what I’m doing
Join the club fam. Honestly its mostly like reddit! You'll slowly get the hang of federated.
Just know the default post sort is "active" which you might want to change to hot or new. Hot has a bug so it doesn't update as much as it should
Yeah I created communities I saw didn’t exist because I wanted to make it easier for people coming here but I don’t wanna be a fuckin mod lmao
Well you don't have to be an active mod
I created a jazz community but if it ever takes off I'll make someone else mod haha. Right now its the wild west
Yeah I’ve already started to throw people some mods
howdy all. click on my profile name to see a little bit about me. been into computers/tech since the dawn of the www.* - but only doing it professionally for the last 20 years - aerospace/defense, civil engineering/architecture, and now finance/banking.
15 years of redditing down the drain (as it were), and here we are - ditched it a few days ago & started here (well, lemmy.ml first but lemmy.world seems to be more stable). this distributed federation platform is really interesting from a technical perspective, and dynamic... and there seems to be less toxicity - it's there, you have to go looking for it though (lemmygrad, etc). I've been adding to the communities as I can - those here on lemmy.world as well as a few over on kbin, midwest, and a few other instances.
I'm on the west coast (best coast) for the time being but eventually I'd like to transition to a more of a nomadic way of life - hopefully within the next 18 months, or so (reference https://lemmy.world/post/176167).
hopefully we can enjoy some fun conversations.
west coast best coast!!
That's awesome dude!
My Lemmy app (jerboa) seems to think the parentheses and period is part of your link so here it is without: https://lemmy.world/post/176167
Van life seems tempting. I saw a post somewhere about mostAmericanss preferring pre internet life
yeah, larger cities are beginning to become unmanageable/ungovernable, there's too many people and too much poverty/crime - granted, the people that can afford to leave do so, and as a result the local tax revenues decrease as well... but I see that as their problem, not my problem.
I still need internet to work/acquire currency, but 5g (or just LTE) is basically everywhere except very remote places. with the right networking hardware, it's rather simple to get internet access via the cellular system (satellite based internet is an option but the tech isnt quite there yet) - I'll be going with a bonded cellular router, probably Verizon and Tmobile, they have complimentary coverage zones.
Hi all, happy to have found Lemmy! I'm just a regular ole llama from the Midwest!
Hey what part! I'm down in Ohio
Hello. My name is Spitz and I am not a French cat.
Are you a French dog?
No, but the thread title didn't say anything about a French dog.
Are you a French? (alien)
An alien can't come from Earth...

Hello, I'm an English teacher! Originally from America but I live in Taiwan now. I spend my free time playing video games, reading books, writing stories, and watching anime.
Hello! What's your favorite anime?
Oh that's tough. I've only recently started watching anime in the last couple of years so I don't have much to draw from, but I really like HunterXHunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, Way of the Househusband, and the new Gundam Witch from Mercury.
I'm not a huge anime person but I've been loving Chainsaw man
