Explanation: Hades, the Greek god of the underworld, trapped his wife-to-be, Persephone, in the underworld by having her eat pomegranate seeds, binding her to the place. This is obviously very uncomfortable by modern standards, and even some later Greek myths re-interpret it as being a kind of willing elopement against her mother's will rather than kidnapping-by-trickery.

How is this history, unless you believe the Greek myths to be literally true?
Mythology is part of ancient cultures. Unless you're interpreting history extremely narrowly as "Events and dates" and not "The study of past societies", it fits.
