Any device that is no longer supported should immediately have all of it's specs released to the public, and immediately lose any IP protection on every part of the device.
This needs to be enforced by having every product that requests protection for it's IP to have all source code and documentation held in escrow by a third party, preferably a US government department.
Any company that intentionally withholds any part of it's documentation needs to have it's board and c-suite held personally liable.
ESPECIALLY for medical equipment.
