Brian May, the lead guitarist of British rock band Queen, revealed Wednesday that he had a “minor stroke” last week, which caused him to temporarily lose control over his arm.

May, 77, said in a video on his website that he was doing “OK” but that he was “grounded” and advised not to drive, fly or do any activity which raises his heart rate too high.

“I’m here to bring you first of all some good news, I think, good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” he said. “And I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned, happened about a week ago, and what they called it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm.”

For some reason, the simple act of walking a bit every day seems the most rapid way to both recovery and prevention.

Walking really does help. After my stroke I could barely get anywhere. But I kept at it almost every day and whenever I pass the telephone pole I used to rest at I realize how far I've come. Not feeling like I'm dying after is great.

Thankfully I can still play music.

I'm so glad you are doing better! Thanks for letting us know.

You're welcome. It's nice to be affirmed while I'm doing something small to contribute to my health, even small.

I think the hardest part is you don't notice you've improved until a while after. So it can seem like you're treading water, but in reality you're definitely helping yourself.

Thankfully, I've not suffered a stroke. I did stop walking for four months and noticed how rapidly the pounds gathered and my body feels like crud. I've been walking again a month but I can tell a huge difference from when I stopped until now. Holy moly!

Insert that “change my mind” meme: Brian May’s solos are the reason we rock out so hard to Queen!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

The reason we rock out so hard to Queen is the band as a whole. No individual member of the band contributed a disproportionate amount to the band's success. Although Freddie Mercury and Brian May can be said to have influenced it more. Others were just as necessary for the success they enjoyed and still do.

Not changing yours, but Deacons bass lines are brilliant in their simplicity and are criminally overlooked.

He may be coming to the end, but at least he explained the zodiacal light phenomenon first

When someone gets to a certain age, any time I see their name in the headline I think “please don’t end with ‘dies’”

Legend.

Dude is a real genius. Pretty sure he was an astrophysicist before or during the early days of Queen.

He got his astrophysics degree in 2007.

Edit: he did coauthor astrophysics papers during Queen's heyday. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_May
