Rules for Posting Guides on Our Community

1. Defining a Guide Guides are comprehensive reference materials, how-tos, or comparison tables. A guide must be well-organized both in content and layout. Information should be easily accessible without unnecessary navigation. Guides can include flowcharts, step-by-step instructions, or visual references that compare different elements side by side.

2. Infographic Guidelines Infographics are permitted if they are educational and informative. They should aim to convey complex information visually and clearly. However, infographics that primarily serve as visual essays without structured guidance will be subject to removal.

3. Grey Area Moderators may use discretion when deciding to remove posts. If in doubt, message us or use downvotes for content you find inappropriate.

4. Source Attribution If you know the original source of a guide, share it in the comments to credit the creators.

5. Diverse Content To keep our community engaging, avoid saturating the feed with similar topics. Excessive posts on a single topic may be moderated to maintain diversity.

6. Verify in Comments Always check the comments for additional insights or corrections. Moderators rely on community expertise for accuracy.

Why am I unable to scroll when using connect app. I open the picture, zoom in (which zooms to the center of it). Then when I scroll it'll scroll a little bit before just closing the picture and the post

Is the text in this unreadable to anyone else?

Seems to be based on the viewing client.

On desktop, no problems, obviously.

In Jerboa, text is barely readable. I can make it out if I already know what it says. Zoom appears to be capped at some percentage below 100, or the text doesn't resolve at the client's maximum magnification.

In Connect, text is fine, but I'm having an issue with images in Connect in that when I try to scroll up or down the image, it just closes, but that's unrelated to your question.

Very useful for when I'm towing my cargo ship across the strait!

Thanks!

Sounds like an adventure, sailor

I always imagine being the kind of person who remembers these things but then I end up just tying a BFK and calling it a day

What a lovely post - and my first save on Lemmy! Bravo!

Trucker's hitch is probably my favorite because it's adjustable and can be untied under tremendous tension. If you do two loops you can even get it to add some mechanical advantage.

Love when I get to use the trucker hitch. Was camping last weekend and used it for various things. Even when it was probably unnecessary. Day to day operations I'm mostly using the less flashy bowline and square the most.

It's cool once you can tie [remember] all these knots. You start to look for excuses to use them.

Blackwall hitch is my favorite, for minimalism. It's basically a sheet bend tied around the throat of a hook, and it will only hold while under tension.
