Bring back the bridge! Campervan numbers are just too high to be sustainable for our roads. It needs a cap, nevermind more taxes. And there's a far easier way to enforce it: if caught overnight in a layby or carpark face £200/night fines. Buy a site and hookup or don't come. Instead book a bus tour, or get a hotel - or even a hostel! Or consider camping, or a B&B, or a day trip

Not an islander so not for me to decide one way or the other but if the sheer volume of traffic is causing an issue then I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect tourists to foot at least part of the bill. The money is going into the local economy already but the roads don’t pay for themselves.

Could we not just increase road tax on motorhomes?

That way the entire road infrastructure would benefit rather than just one island. Funds can be directed to where they're needed most.

I understand that islanders will be annoyed by excessive tourism, but the tourists do already bring a huge amount of money to the island (The tourism industry in Skye brings about £260M per year, worth approximately £5000 per resident).
