I don't mind the move, and Lemmy has some nice features, like seeing upvote and downvote count separately. Shedding the downvote bots is also nice. The only thing that stings is losing access to the old Reddit posts there. If Lemmy gonna be the new status quo, the subreddit should be set to read-only instead.

I really like the tag dormi.zone, its very cute.
Personally, I'm enjoying the entire removal of the disallowed posts rule; but the content here is at a steadier pace and i dont have to see wisp ass when i check it; it does make me consider downsizing the requirements for disallowed posts on the main sub while we dont have any content streaming into it to make the change messy.
I do understand that the main sub has a few guides and resources and we could move or recreate into here by request. We already have a lot of information accessible by the main wiki, and the q/a nature of the official WF discord, as well as the larger fan-run Warframe discord; the best thing is just to know what would be the most important to bring in that isnt already available by those two, and then just get more and more niche in terms of information that has been discussed on the subreddit but not exactly made as a huge post and bring it here.
And for those that don't know, if you cannot find your bookmarked posts via the wayback machine or adding cache:
to the beginning of your url, feel free to ask; I know it's kind of annoying, but it's what we've got for now at the very least. In terms of going public/restricted/read only, internally it's a long consideration and debate on if we stay fully private or just read only just so people have access to the information.
edit: i said post instead of url, my bad
Personally I’m not going back. I thought I could go to the official forum but the atmosphere and environment there didn’t seem to be suitable for some chill scrolling and memeing.
I used to frequent it and still do report bugs there, but with each update after TNW, the forum started feeling more and more focused just on complaining. Like, you'll see 48694 posts 'circuit bad' with many replies and likes, but if someone makes a post praising the game or discussing things like fashion, modding, etc., they usually die down quickly.
I've encountered this problem in a different game's Subreddit. They seemed hyper-fixated on the negative so prior to the blackout when somebody mad a small alternative sub I subbed & blocked the original. Seriously, I'm playing a game for enjoyment and participating in the game's community to enjoy with others or to share knowledge about the game... unending font of negativity centered around every little aspect is really contradictory to that.
I only wish they made the threads at least a read-only permission
As a returning player Reddit threads/comments are the ones that helped me most cause most YT vid sucks due to intros and long vids that could be answered shortly. I was sad when I saved some threads that I was reading before the blackout and I cant read the guides and search for answers again so pretty much stopped doing things towards my goals for now
You can try asking here. There's surely some experienced users, among which I'd like to count as well, who will be happy to help.
I don't like Reddit, so here I am instead.
I support the blackout, but im also kinda annoyed because tons of Warframe information are in reddit posts.
First gaming sub of a game I play that I saw here. I just have to say I was so happy and excited you guys came.
Personally, I'm not going back. At least not as a participant. Reddit still has a ton of valuable information and and I won't pretend otherwise, but I can't support it anymore with the recent news.
With that said, it would be great if you guys stayed and (hopefully) the others still on reddit find their way here.
I dislike reddit and will not ever be found there.
Don't think ill be using reddit much after this shitshow.
If the subreddit does come back up however, we should see about cross posting things from the subreddit to here (with the og posters permission), same for memeframe. It raises awareness for the federated community and helps it feel less like we arent missing out on current events while it finds its footing.
I enjoy the more chill and less negative experience so far tbh. I just hope the Mlem app gets up to par with features cuz mobile experience so far is so-so for me (on iOS). I plan to stay either way for now :)
If I continue using Reddit it will be in a heavily Adblocked way (basically depends on whether communities I care about the most will come back and in what form). And through wayback machine if I need to access something locked up. I will browse some stuff on Apollo till it shuts down but I think detaching from Reddit will do me better in the long run.
If I can get all the new info like updates, important tweets, patch announcements here then I have no reason to go back to r/warframe, I don't care about 99% of other content there and would prefer a smaller community like this tbh, especially if it stays more positive.
With a bit of luck and cajoling, maybe we can get DE to cross post their tweets here.
I think we'd have to grow a lot before that starts happening (unless DE decides to take a moral stance against reddit themselves, which I doubt), but who knows what happens down the line. I'd like that for sure, I much prefer hanging out here than consolidating everything on reddit and under their admin's whims.
And not full of bots like Reddit as a whole.
Personally I'm fine with using lemmy, I think it's a tad confusing due to the de-centralized nature compared to reddit a centralized service. However, I fucking hate spez and his asshole nature he has been showing way more lately.
While I think it's true it does hurt the community, I think it's best if most places even smaller ones completely move off of reddit as it's really the only way to get reddit to change it's mind. If people stop using reddit, they actually lose ad revenue that is not short term. Which means they have to start making compromises. No matter what both situations suck.
"if it sucks, hit the bricks" is a way of life i'm all for. Reddit was useful but it's only going to get worse.
I'm cool with staying here. It's an adjustment, but I feel it's worthwhile since I'm pretty sure Reddit isn't gonna budge.
Here to stay, personally. Reddit seemed to mostly be a cesspool of negativity so it was never fun to engage. I think there is some information on the subreddit that might be useful, but the majority of information can be found on the forums or wiki. I can agree that read only would be a decent compromise
I think its pointless. Warframe is not a big enough community to have any impact and frankly none are. IMO this is doing more harm to the community then good. Redits decision will likely not change.
This is accurate. Whatever your feelings about reddit are, the warframe sub is a major artery for DE as far as advertising, community interaction, feedback, and even bug reporting are concerned. Can these things still be found on other sites like the forum and discord? Of course. Will the thousands and thousands of people who still use reddit as their easy-peasy news website shift over to those places just to get warframe news? Not all of them. Keeping the sub closed just hurts DE, no matter how you look at it.
As an Android user, I found the app to be pretty nice. I kinda like it a little better than RiF actually (replying to posts in a dialog box was always a little awkward). I don't mind staying here, even if subscribing to other communities is a bit awkward. I have missed the old subreddit data a few times already, but that's part of the point, right? It will be harder to funnel people here without some kind of obvious post for people that try to read the subreddit. Even the private dialog doesn't always show it.
How do you that? Subbing to communities off Domri.zone? I'm still largely unable to figure this stuff out.
Sort by All or search for specific communities by name and subscribe to the ones you like. Where your account is doesn't matter.
This website is nothing when you look at the massive amount of data and information that is being held at ransom and only affects the community because of this protest.
A lot of the information on reddit was never easy to look up, even trying to find a post through key words was usually pointless. There were also posts that were out of date or had terrible advice for builds like throwing Internal Bleeding on anything that has Impact damage, even if the weapon isn't suited for it because of low status chance/high fire rate, or good Crit chance meaning Hunter Munitions was the better choice.
Being on a different platform doesn't fix outdated/bad information but it does let you start fresh without references to outdated guides. The wiki also aggregates information a lot more efficiently than scattered forum posts and can be updated.
The data can be transferred and recreated. Plus, Warframe heavily relies on its wiki, which is unaffected afaik.
Wiki still exists plus if you search for a thread via Google, you can always copy the thread link and try using Wayback Machine. (I’ve used that on a very small thread today and it worked)
I don't really use reddit a ton anymore but tbh I don't think I'll be staying here either.
I hated the reddit redesign on desktop because it did some annoying things like waste a ton of space, and sadly Lemmy on desktop has similar usability issues to new.reddit in that regard. I could fix it with userstyles (like I could new reddit), but I'd much rather not have to. These are things that can be fixed dev-side too, but until that happens I really just don't like using the default lemmy experience.
Also I use iOS and the iOS app selection for Lemmy is severely lacking, the app that does exist (Mlem) does not have great usability imo
I don't think I'm going back to reddit much without a 3rd party app (and I'm not paying to use one), but at the same time, I agree about Lemmy. The web app is pretty buggy, and really not good on mobile web. For example I had to reload the page for the reply button to respond to this comment on desktop, and on several occasions I click on a random post on the mobile page and it's brought me to some kind of editing page rather than loading the post to reply.
That said, of the official forums, reddit, and lemmy, lemmy is the least bad right now and seems like it has the best future. It at least has 3rd party app support on mobile, and isn't actively trying to sabotage its mobile web experience even if it needs work.
Before the move some posts got thousands of up votes. After the move the upvotes are in the low double digits. Most don't care, that's why they didn't come over
I'm still using it and am tired of not being able to research a LOT of fixes I used to have. Yes I know the protest is ongoing but it'd be nice if come july at the very least all the blackout reddits go restricted so I can gain access to information that was there again.
It's a complete waste of time. I signed up just to complain about it. I program / integrate API's for a living. There's tonnes of websites that don't have free api access. Reddit isn't obligated to provide any API, and the fact it's taking it away isn't a good enough reason for all these mods to throw their toys out of the cot. Furthermore, it's not the mods that will suffer for their decisions because they still have access to these private subreddits, it's the users - most of whom have nothing to do with third party reddit apps or reddit apis and couldn't care less.
Users who access reddit through a third party free API app make $0 for reddit. The big one being apollo, which likely would have been costing reddit a shit tonne in server fees and upkeep. So Reddit's decision to change their API makes complete sense... Imagine if someone moved into your house, ate your food, paid no rent and then when you kicked them out people started protesting you for doing so. Whether users don't visit reddit or they visit it through a third party app - the outcome for reddit is the same. $0 - great fuck all. That's why these subreddits going private are going to do jack shit.
And to those users who think you care because you've been told you should (and because you love a good protest) ask yourself how this REALLY effects you. If you use a third party app, you'll instead have to use a slightly different looking one. And BONUS you'll be supporting the company that has actually made all those subreddits possible. I understand this is going to get downvoted to shit (if it can, idk how this stupid site works) because people THINK they care at the moment. But literally give it 2 weeks, everybody will realize the changes don't mean shit to them personally, and they'll stop giving a fuck.
My last complaint is just how shortsighted / selfish this is on the part of the people incharge here. Nobody is here for you. Nobody is here for your opinions on how reddit should run it's business. Nobody gives 2 shits about how you feel the community should come together. We care about discussing shit with a large amount of actual war frame players, and then finding that information at a later date. And by doing this protest you're removing both of those conditions, no large amount of players, no archive of knowledge. The next warframe subreddit that gains ANY traction is where 95% of players are going to go and you'll be left here with some opinions that nobody cares about.
I'm a developer too.
I pay for my API usage, as I should.
It's priced reasonably, and the companies selling me that usage don't spread lies about me in private and in public.
I'm also a very long term Reddit user, and I'm completely aware of why Reddit exists. It's us. It's the content we make. It's the time we take to moderate our communities. We made this content before, we put it in usenet and irc and forums. We can put it back there.
Do people really think like that ? We are not mad because of the api being paid, we are mad because of the crazy prices. They are doing this to nuke 3rd party app, and nothing else.
Of course they have the right to do that, but we have the right to leave too. I think the warframe reddit should just be archived with a post sending here (even if reddit admin will never allow it).
And BONUS you’ll be supporting the company that has actually made all those subreddits possible.
I can somewhat see where you're coming from, but ultimately it's the people that make the subreddits/communities, like you kinda indicate towards the end.
Reddit is getting free labor, probably tens of thousands of hours of it, from their moderators. The moderators need the API to manage the subreddits. It'st that simple.
The main complaints wasn't that the API was going to be paid but how much more it cost to use the API vs other APIs like Imgur's.
There were devs that had been trying to contact support for +3 months to find out about pricing and Reddit couldn't bother giving them a response notifying them about the new pricing for their API.
Then there was the AMA about how the new API was going to work where nothing was answered. I think somone even linked to their API "documentation" and it was just it is just a waitlist, even though it is going live at the end of the month.
*There was also the response about how the reddit app lacks accessability, and it seemed more like they were scrambling to put something together.
I don't believe I read anything about bots having access to the NSFW part of Reddit, so some automated mod tools aren't going to work there anymore. People will probably notice an increase in onlyfans (or similar type of site) spam bots. Mods of those subs could probably write a bot that scrapes to remove those posts, but I'm pretty sure scraping is against Reddits TOS, and could just get the bot banned.
Other helpful bots that are community orientation are dead as far as I know, like savevideo/remindme.
https://youtu.be/99cVnYY9Iqs one reason why new Reddit/app is terrible, especially for anyone dealing with data caps.
**They also forced r/piracy to be public again, considering that they want to force questionable content like that to be public, they probably aren't going to bother doing a half decent job replacing mods when forcing other subs to go public.
Reddit is hopeless as long as spez is in the seat,
We need to redirect all traffic here and make the sun read only.
I didn’t even sign up at first, was just looking through the rants. This site is an eye sore for me though and actually harder to physically read and keep up with discussions for me.
I won’t be sticking around though, I only go to the warframe Reddit when I need to look up an answer to a question I have, but now that you guys have gotten rid of years of discussions. The wiki and official forums are more useful to me now.
This is officially my first comment on any Lemmy server. I'm done with Reddit personally, and I'm just trying to figure this new beast out. First comment of mine had to be in the Warframe community haha
