This community has kind of been empty since it was created, I'm hoping to change that!
Unlike "other" Portland communities you may have seen "elsewhere", I believe in a "warts and all" approach. You are free to take off your Rose tinted glasses and talk about topics that are dragging our city down.
At the same time, sunset pics, snowmageddon, traffic monster, cones, that's all welcome as well. Let's collectively keep Portland weird!
2024 is going to be an interesting year politically with all the changes to city government, I will attempt to tag political threads with a [Politics] tag and encourage users to do so as well.
Other than the lemmy.world restrictions on spam, copyrighted material, and adult material (USE that NSFW tag!), there's only one real way to get in trouble here:
- Don't attack other users.
It's OK to go after Teargas Ted, it's OK to say Rene Gonzales is a fascist, ACAB, BLM, whatever floats your boat (WEFYB).
It's NOT OK to attack or diminish another user. Feel free to disagree, you can point out the many ways you think they're wrong, just don't start throwing perjoratives AT OTHER USERS.

I would love to be a juror on this one.
Sounds like a hero to me. Those things serve no purpose other than help prop up city tax revenue.
My main concern is his method. That is a very dangerous way to remove them, especially if he isn't taking into consideration what's behind his target.
He could be using a shotgun with bird shot. Whatever misses the target wouldn't travel very far before falling harmlessly to the ground.
Makes sense too if he is to shoot from a moving vehicle. It would be like reverse clay target shooting.
Nope. There’s a video in the article. He’s driving in the middle lane, sees something shiny to shoot at, swerves over a couple lanes, pulls over (blocking the rightmost lane so people have to go around him), gets out of the car and pops a few cap at the sky. Definitely not any method to this madness, just the classic YOLO shenanigans I’ve come to expect from modded WRX drivers.
Quite right. A sniper rifle would be the way to go here.
As a professional CDL driver... I want more of them. Fucking tired of people going 50+ on 35mph roads, 80+ in a 65. Racing around me and cutting me off when I'm already going 5 over posted. I used to agree but after years of driving for a living? Nah fuck em they deserve the ticket, anything within 5 of posted won't land you a ticket and even if a cop tried it would be dropped without any resistance if you just challenged it. If you can't handle going within 5 of posted then you shouldn't be behind the wheel.
Cars doing 35/40 in a 20 with people trying to cross the road… this is not okay. Pedestrian fatalities are up, and this is part of the issue.

If you want more of these shenanigans, done without firing a gun into oncoming traffic, look at the ULEZ vigilantes in London. All the cameras are just falling down... Glass and plastic being bruleed. Copper wires being cut. Post holes being filled with foam and concrete. No guns required. Causes much more work to replace than just unbolting the old camera and putting up a new one.
Unique? Sounds like a run of the mill WRX. Definitely not unique.
